WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum will welcome author Peter Friedman and Grant Copeland to the museum on Friday, November 1, from 6-7:30 pm, for an author talk and book signing for their co-authored book I’ll Get the Tip: Moments Between the World’s Biggest Stars and an Unknown Ad Guy.

The book is a heartwarming collection of stories full of anecdotes and life lessons from behind-the-scenes moments with sports, music, political, and entertainment icons from throughout Friedman’s five-decade career as a television commercial and video producer.

Friedman says he has had “the good fortune” to be around people other people want to be around.

“This book is about those moments,” he added.

He has spent his entire professional life as a television commercial and video producer. His five-decade career includes heading the Lucasfilm commercial production company, serving as the first global head of television production for Nike, running the worldwide broadcast production team for McCann Erickson, and acting as the production head for PGA TOUR Entertainment.

From Michael Jordan, Justin Bieber and Bill Clinton to Bono, Ted Kennedy and Tiger Woods, Friedman’s book takes readers both center stage and behind the scenes with icons of sport, music, politics, and entertainment.

Through Friedman’s good-natured storytelling, readers experience a fun and fascinating trip into a world few people get to see, alongside one of the largely invisible but extremely valuable professionals who help make television commercial magic.

Having filmed around the world while largely based in New York and Los Angeles, Friedman now lives more quietly in northern Fairfield County.

Copeland is the president and chief creative officer of WORX, a Connecticut-based marketing agency. A friend (and fan) of Friedman’s, Copeland reportedly casually remarked that he “might be able to help write something about your career” while the two drove to a New York Islanders game a few years ago.

A 223-page paperback, I’ll Get The Tip was published in September by Free Lunch Press.

The Mattatuck Museum is at 144 West Main Street in Waterbury. It is open Monday through Saturday, 11 am-5 pm; and Sunday, 11 am-4 pm. It is closed on Mondays, October through April.
