Youth Runners Win Meet

The Newtown Hawks Youth Cross Country teams continued their winning streaks at home on October 18. The boys are now 10-0 and the girls improved to 11-0. Reilly Rising broke his own course record by 17 seconds, winning the race by covering the 1.92-mile Reed School course in a time of 11:53. Joel Duval was second in 11:54, Connor McNerney third in 12:22, Peter Fagerholm fourth in 12:26, and Jacob Steinebrey ninth in 12:55.

Newtown had 19 points to beat Schaghticoke with 49, Scotts Ridge, 77, and East Ridge, 124.

The Newtown girls’ squad won with 24 points over Schaghticoke with 77, Danbury, 111, East Ridge, 145, and Scotts Ridge, 156. Maddie Finley was second in breaking the course record with a time of 12:58, Olivia Hage came in third in 13:09, Maggie Beardsley was fourth in 13:33, Julia DiMartino finished seventh in 14:23, and Rylee Mulligan was eighth in 14:37. 

Joel Duval finished fifth overall and first in his age group in the 4 mile Monroe Road Race on October 21, finishing in 26:20. Hage was tenth overall and first in her group, and Dylan Barlett earned a third-place award for 13-15 year old males.
