Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Kayla Green, 18, of 1 Joan Drive turned herself over to police at the police station on the evening of October 18 and was charged with third-degree larceny, which is a felony, police report.

Police said the arrest stems from their July 29 investigation into a complaint concerning an alleged theft at the Hallmark greeting card/gift shop at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).

Police said Green was released on $2,500 bail for a November 1 arraignment at Danbury Superior Court.

Queen Street

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the main driveway for Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street at about 2:11 pm on October 18.

Police said that motorist Marjorie Aitchison, 80, of 8 Lake Road, who was driving a 2008 Ford Escape SUV, started to exit the shopping center and make a left turn onto northbound Queen Street, but then came to a stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Motorist David Selleck, 54, of 8 Fox Run Lane, who was driving a 2008 GMC K-1500 pickup truck behind the Ford, then struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Selleck a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Center

Police said that at about 9:39 am on October 19, motorist Joan Galasso, 72, of 55 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2000 Hyundai Elantra sedan, was exiting a driveway adjacent to 100 Church Hill Road to make left turn onto westbound Church Hill Road.

At that time, motorist Anna Lawlor, 39, of 14 Johnson Drive was driving a 2003 Nissan Quest minivan westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

The Hyundai failed to grant the right of way while attempting to make the turn, after which the Nissan turned to the right in attempting to avoid a collision with the Hyundai, but the Nissan then struck a curbstone, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Galasso a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

School Bus

At about 2:10 pm on October 19, Barbara Buck, 37, of 3 Diamond Drive, who was driving a 2013 Blue Bird school bus which was carrying 12 students, was waiting in line to exit the high school parking lot at 12 Berkshire Road, when the bus was struck from behind by motorist Joshua Kaufman, 16, of 7 Rosemere Drive, who was driving a 2000 Ford Focus sedan carrying one passenger, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kaufman an infraction concerning passenger restrictions.

Moving Violations

Police report that about 10:30 am on October 20, they stopped motorist Scott Meenan, 45, of Purdys, N.Y., to investigate near 153 Sugar Street.

Police said that they charged Meenan with driving a vehicle without a registration and with driving with a suspended license.

Meenan was released on $100 bail for a November 1 court appearance, police said.

Truck Rollover

Police report that Louis J. DeVecchis, Jr, 46, of 25 Gelding Hill Road was driving a commercial 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck near 22 Jeremiah Road at about 1 pm on October 15, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck some rocks, resulting in the truck rolling onto its driver’s side and striking a tree.

DeVecchis was treated for injuries at the scene by ambulance staffers, police said.

DeVecchis received an infraction for making a restricted turn, driving without a license, and failure to wear a seatbelt, police said.

Philo Curtis Road

At about 6:26 pm on October 20, police report that they stopped motorist Crystal Cunningham, 24, of 41 Riverside Road near 21 Philo Curtis Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Cunningham with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Cunningham on a written promise to appear in court on November 7.

Taunton Lake Road

Motorist Nicholas Ceretta, 26, of 6 Leopard Drive was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra sedan eastward near 46 Taunton Lake Road at about 8:48 pm on October 21, when he encountered a deer that ran onto the road, police said.

Ceretta swerved to the right to avoid the animal, but the auto then struck some curbing and some stonework at the driveway entrance to 46 Taunton Lake Road, police said.

Ceretta was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making an improper turn.

Two Warrants

Police report that after learning that they held two warrants for his arrest, Eric Shields, 39, of Bethel turned himself over to police at the police station on the morning of October 18. Each warrant listed one count of violation of probation in connection with a September 25 incident, police said.

Shields was on probation in connection with a November 2011 arrest in Newtown on a charge of driving under the influence, and also on probation in connection with a July 2006 arrest in Meriden on a charge of illegal drug sales, police said.

Police said they held Shields on bail for an October 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Nissan Vs Deer

Police said that motorist Roger Castro, 48, of Bridgeport was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa northward on Main Street, near Currituck Road, about 3:40 am on October 16, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision.

The accident was reported to them about 4:11 pm that day, police said. Castro was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Exit 11 Mishap

Motorist Nancy Sedensky, 54, of Newtown was driving a 2001 Mercury Sable sedan during rainy conditions on the Exit 11 entrance ramp for Interstate 84 at about 5:28 pm on October 19, when the auto went out of control on the wet pavement and struck some metal guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Sedensky for traveling too fast for conditions.

I-84 Accident

At about 6:06 pm on October 19, motorist Laurie Bernardone, 46, of Pomfret Center, who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 9, slowed for heavy traffic and was struck from behind by a 1995 Nissan Sentra driven by Michael Hoey, 22, of Naugatuck, state police said.  

Bernardone reported pain, but refused medical treatment, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Cadillac Crash

Motorist Michael Miklinevich, 59, of Margate, N.J., was driving a 2005 Cadillac DeVille sedan eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 3:20 pm on October 20 when the auto struck some debris on the highway, state police said. The impact smashed the windshield. There were no injuries.

Ramp Collision

Motorist Natasha Kuranko, 18, of Weston was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla sedan on the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84 at about 3:51 pm on October 19, when the auto failed to negotiate a curve in the road, went off the pavement and then struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder, according to state police.

Kuranko was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

 

Mazda Vs Audi

State police report that motorist Joseph Mickolyzck, 29, of North Haven, was driving a 2006 Audi A-4 2.0-T sedan on Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp at about 5:48 pm on October 17, and then slowed to a stop for heavy traffic, after which the Audi was struck from behind by a 2009 Mazda 5 sedan driven by Katherine Walton, 50, of 36 Jeremiah Road.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Asleep at Wheel

State police report that motorist Jenna Vanderlinden, 20, of Tenafly, N.J., was driving a 1995 Buick Regal eastbound on Interstate 84 near Exit 11 at about 7 am on October 17, when she fell asleep at the wheel and then struck a lightpost and some metal guardrailing.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Highway Collision

State police said that motorist Anthony Parisi, 52, of Danbury was driving a 1992 Nissan Maxima sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 7:50 pm on October 17 when a Peterbilt tractor-trailer truck driven by Jeremy Hamman, 34, of Mishawaka, Ind., merged into the lane occupied by the Nissan and struck the Nissan.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Saw Mill Road

Motorist Michael Dalessandro, 51, of 5 Pumpkin Lane was driving a 2009 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Saw Mill Road, near its intersection with Westwood Terrace, about 6:54 pm on October 22, when a deer ran across the road, resulting in a collision. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Vehicular Violations

Motorist Jason Lamonte, 20, of 67 Osborne Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy sedan at about 2:24 pm on October 14, was traveling westward near 72 Jeremiah Road, when the auto ran out of gasoline, police said.

Lamonte attempted to back up, but the vehicle went out of control and then rolled off the road, striking a flower pot and a tree, police said.

Lamonte was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction on charges of unsafe backing and driving without a license.

Warrant

Police said that on the evening of October 19, they responded to a report of a dispute at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road and after investigating, they learned that a warrant was pending for one of the people involved in the conflict.

Police said that they then charged Thomas Jackman, 22, of 19 Fairchild Drive with fifth-degree larceny, identity theft, illegal possession of another person’s identification, and credit card theft.

Police had investigated a July 19 complaint, resulting in those charges.

After processing, police released Jackman on $25,000 bail for a November 6 court appearance.

Church Hill Accident

Police said that motorist Maureen Reidy, 40, of 38 Hoseye Coach Road, who was driving a 2011 GMC Acadia SUV westward on Church Hill Road, came to a stop at about 2:13 pm on October 16 in preparing to make a left turn into the driveway for Caraluzzi’s Food Market, after which the GMC was struck from behind by westbound motorist Roger Kniskern, 64, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris sedan.

Both drivers were transported to Danbury Hospital, police said. Kniskern received a written warning for following too closely, according to police.
