To the Editor:
I am crossing party lines in support of Lisa Romano for state representative for the 106th District.
After reading the endorsement letters for Mitch Bolinsky in last weekâs Bee, I would like to comment on some of the statements, specifically those made by Cathy Reiss. Cathy stated that Lisa stands for big government and more taxation. In the debate last week, both Lisa and Mitch concluded that a reduction in the state workforce is necessary; where the two didnât agree was in method. Mitch proposed employee attrition and emphasized that lay-offs were âabsolutely notâ an option. On the other hand, Lisa conceded that there may very well need to be some lay-offs and even extended an apology to current state workers for the difficult measures that lay ahead to correct the stateâs ills.
During the debate, Lisa also asserted that she would not have supported all of the legislation that has resulted in more and higher taxes. Lisa is a âProgressiveâ Democrat candidate.
Why I believe Lisa will make a better state representative than Mitch goes beyond party affiliations. Lisa is the boldest person I know: always the first to ask questions for clarification, she listens, she is intelligent, capable, assertive, and will make a positive impression when representing Newtown in Hartford.
Please join me in voting for Lisa Romano on November 6, regardless of your party affiliation.
Respectfully,
Laurie Veillette
