To the Editor:
I am writing to ask my fellow Newtowners to vote for Lisa Romano as our representative in Hartford for the 106th District on November 6.
As a longtime science teacher in Connecticutâs public high schools and universities, I know that it is crucial to elect people who have the right experience to tackle our stateâs challenges, chiefly in its economy and education. In her work as realtor, journalist, and teacher-in-training, Lisa has demonstrated the experience we need in this position. She is capable of listening, analyzing complicated information, and coming up with creative solutions. It is truly exciting to support Lisa, who realizes that across the state, we need to do more to teach students how to take responsibility for their education as they progress through school. Lisaâs real-world experience as a parent and a teacher gives her the kind of uncommonly good sense we need to provide best education possible to all Connecticutâs children. Also, in seeking to grow the stateâs economy, Lisa would make the tough choices, cutting state programs and employees that do not bring a benefit to state residents, and pushing the state to encourage growth and start-ups in the private sector.
I contrast this with the experience of Lisaâs opponent. Mr Bolinsky has sat on the townâs Board of Ethics, Economic Development Commission, and, for less than one year, our Legislative Council. I think I am being kind when I say that last summerâs town budget referendum process was a fiasco, and Mr Bolinsky, who was on the Legislative Council during it, needs to be held accountable. Did he bring in any creative solutions? No. He stood up at a meeting and said he was being harassed by his constituents, who were e-mailing him with their input. This is not the sort of representation we want in Hartford. Also, if a candidate is going to tout their experience of sitting on local boards, they need to do more than just sit. If you take the time to peruse the minutes of the Economic Development Commission, you will not find a single initiative proposed by Mr Bolinsky. You will only find absenteeism and motions for adjournment. The Board of Ethics meets just a handful of times each year, and I expect the members to make notable contributions during each meeting. Sadly, it appears that Mr Bolinskyâs resume as just an impressive-looking list, with no concrete accomplishments.
I urge all Newtown voters to vote for Lisa Romano on November 6. She is the best choice to represent all of us.
Sincerely,
Katie Morosky
