Home Energy Solutions Promotion Launched In Newtown

Newtown has kicked off a yearlong promotion to help its residents reduce their energy consumption, save money on their utility bills, and support the Newtown Fuel Bank and Newtown High School Athletic Department through participation in the Home Energy Solutions program.

Home Energy Solutions (HES) is a home energy improvement service that is designed to help people save money on their monthly energy bills. For a $75 co-pay, licensed technicians install an average of $700 of energy efficiency products and weatherization services in a home or apartment and saves homeowners and renters an average of $200 each year following implementation.

Newtown has partnered with three licensed Home Energy Solutions vendors, Victory Energy Solutions of New Britain, Energy PRZ of Brookfield, and HE-Energy Solutions of Stratford. Each vendor will make a $50 donation to the Newtown Fuel Bank, managed by the Department of Social Services, for each of the first 100 homes that sign up, and a $25 donation for each additional home after that. In addition to the fuel bank donations, the vendors will also donate $5 for each home that signs up to the Newtown High School Athletic Department.

“By supporting energy efficiency and participating in the HES promotion, our residents have the opportunity to save money, save energy, and help improve the environment, as well as donate to two worthy causes,” said Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra.

In addition to participating in the townwide HES promotion, Newtown is one of the leading participants of the statewide Clean Energy Communities program, offered through Energize Connecticut, an initiative to help save money and provide clean, affordable energy for our state. It is a partnership between the Energy Efficiency Fund, the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA), and local electric and gas utilities.

The town has also established the Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission, which works with town officials to support energy efficiency and renewable energy. The Newtown Sustainable Energy Commission participates in various events around town to educate the community about clean and energy efficiency programs, including the annual Newtown Earth Day. The commission will also be launching a winter lectures series at the library on various energy topics including residential solar electric energy, home insulation and Energy Star appliance rebates.

“Newtown has already implemented a number of solar and energy efficiency projects under the auspices of the Clean Energy Communities program,” said Jamie Howland, first vice chairman of the Energy Efficiency Board. “Educating residents and participating in the Home Energy Solutions promotion further demonstrates the town’s commitment to energy efficiency.”

Town residents will be receiving a letter and brochure on the Home Energy Solutions promotion in the mail. For additional information on the promotion in Newtown, call 800-957-1610.
