Hawk Swimmers Topple Masuk
Newtown High Schoolâs girlsâ swimming and diving team concluded the regular season with a 99-76 win over visiting Masuk of Monroe on Senior Night on October 19. The Nighthawks won every event and had the win sealed up early, participating in the last several events under exhibition status, as they improved to 8-3 overall.
The night of celebration came to an end with all of the seniors jumping â one by one, some more gracefully than others â off of the diving board. In keeping with tradition, the coaching staff, Zach Gauvin, assistant Jen OâNeil, and diving coach Ryan Cutler, also jumped in â clothes on, of course. Cutler showed off his skills with a dive that would have earned big points in a meet, and Gauvin got plenty of cheers for taking the regular season-ending plunge.
