Amelia Piano Trio To Perform At Edmond Town Hall
Amelia Piano Trio To Perform At
Edmond Town Hall
Amelia Piano Trio with Connecticut native Andrew Armstrong will make a return visit to Newtown on Sunday, November 11, at 3 pm, as guests of Newtown Friends of Music. Daring, lively and completely engrossing music is on the menu for the Sunday afternoon concert to take place in Edmond Town Hall Theatre.
Formed in 1999, the Amelia Piano Trio came to the fore after participating in Isaac Sternâs Chamber Music Workshop at Carnegie Hall in 2000. As a result, Mr Stern became a mentor to the trio and presented the ensembleâs Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall.
The trioâs members, in addition to Mr Armstrong, are violinist Anthea Kreston and cellist Jason Duckles; the musicians quickly made their mark as performers and commissioners of new music. Notably, Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Harbison wrote his first full-length piano trio for the Amelia, a recording of which was released on the Naxos label in the spring of 2007.
The Trioâs most recent commissioning project is a new triple concerto, Orpheus and Eurydic, composed by Daron Hagen.
Their performance on November 11 will include significant works by Brahms and Babajanian, a Russian composer whose musical talent was recognized when he was only five years old.
Single tickets are $25, and they may be reserved in advance by sending a check and self-addressed, stamped envelope to Newtown Friends of Music, PO Box 295, Newtown CT 06470-0295. Tickets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are suggested.
The box office at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, will open at 2 pm the afternoon of the concert. Available tickets may be purchased for cash or check that afternoon.Â
As always, children grades K-12 are admitted free of charge when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
Parking is free behind Edmond Town Hall and the facility is handicapped accessible. An informal reception following the concert will offer concert goers the opportunity to meet and mingle with the musicians.
Season tickets are still available for the remaining concerts of NFoMâs 2012-13 season. For details visit NewtownFriendsOfMusic.org or call 203-426-6470 for additional information including details on future concerts.
