Traffic On Route 34

On Route 34
To the Editor:
While we are focusing on traffic concerns in Newtown, I would like to see Route 34 addressed as well. It is a very dangerous road, especially the stretches with blind turns that leave nowhere to go should an oncoming vehicle stray into your lane. My family has had numerous close calls, especially with trucks, in this situation. Route 34 is used as a main road for many trucks and cars on their way to New Haven and many of them go over the speed limit. After the light at Toddy Hill Road, there is not another reason to stop or slow down until the Stevenson Dam. Over the next ten years there are plans to build a new bridge there, which will only bring more vehicles on this road.
It seems that every year there is a serious accident on Route 34, including this week. We need to address this issue before the new bridge is built, not after.
