This year, Newtown has a choice because Joe Borst, one of Newtownâs longtime public servants, and a longtime Republican, has agreed to run for first selectman. Joe Borst has had extensive experience in many areas of our town government. His experience includes: chair of Planning and Zoning; chair of Public Building Committee; member of the Board of Selectman; chair of the Legislative Councilâs financial subcommittee, chair of the Legislative Councilâs education subcommittee, member of the Ordinance Committee, and twice served as chair of the Charter Revision Candidates Committee. Joeâs service as member and chair of Nunnawauk Housing has given him insights of the special needs of our townâs older population. As a school bus driver, Joe became aware of the need for the expansion of our school transportation system, as well as being in touch with the youth of our community.
The members of the Borst family have been and continue to be active in Newtown. Barbara has served as treasurer of the Newtown Scholarship Association for many years.
Joe and Barbaraâs service to Newtown has helped to make it the community that continues to attract families to move hereâ¦and helps longtimers like us to stay here!
Historically, local elections have not attracted as many voters as national elections. Letâs change that this year by voting our choice of Joe Borst for first selectman on November 6.
Sincerely,
Nelson (Skip) and Jeane Roberts
