Family: My husband, Flip, and I have been married for 34 years. I have three sisters in Ohio, and one sister in New Jersey, and lots of nieces and nephews.
Pets: Not right now. Weâve had three great dogs over the years, but theyâve all gone on to Rainbow Bridge. But we doggie sit for our friends.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We have been in Sandy Hook for 21 years.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to visit with my friends and family. I knit and I read. I like to work, actually. I like what I do. I do volunteer work for various organizations, too. I worked for Hole in the Wall Gang for 17 years and Iâm still peripherally involved with them.
Do you have a favorite book? The Kite Runner. I loved it. And I love anything by Leon Uris. My favorite book by him was Mila 18. Itâs a very textured story of the Polish ghetto uprising in World War II. Itâs a great book.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? I spent a number of years in the travel industry, so Iâve seen a lot of places. Iâve been to six continents, and Iâm going to Antarctica in January with a friend, my sister, and my sisterâs husband. My husband didnât want to go there. You go out on little Zodiacs from the ship each day, see the penguins, that sort of thing. But really, I love the Caribbean.
What is the best thing about Newtown? Itâs such a pretty town. Itâs historic and itâs beautiful. And the people are wonderful. They are involved and they care. We love it here.
If you could do anything you have never done, what would it be? I would save a life. What could be better than that, to help someone live?
Do you have a personal philosophy? Look on the bright side. Do what you can to improve a situation. And keep it simple.
What is the most important lesson you have ever learned? The value of genuine kindness. Because I think thatâs what ensures harmony. Itâs something we can all practice, every day.
