Festival Of Lights To Be Celebrated
At Danbury Library
DANBURY â The whole family is invited to participate in a program at Danbury Library for a special celebration of one of the most anticipated observations of India: Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
The program will be held on Saturday, November 10, from 1 to 4 pm.
As one of the longest festivals in the Indian year, Diwali is full of traditions that include the burning of lamps as a message of peace and harmony in the world. Â
From 1 to 4 pm, participants can drop in to make a Diwali lamp or Rangoli pattern, get a henna (non-permanent) hand appliqué and learn how to dress in the traditional female garment, the sari. At 1:30 Neenu Saoji will give a talk on the history of Diwali, and at 2 participants can enjoy traditional music, dance and treats from India.
The program is free and open to all. The program is coordinated by Mina Patel and Mini Pillai and cosponsored by the Danbury Library and the Indian Association of greater Danbury.
