Connecticut VNA Office To Conduct Flu Shot Clinic;
Free Vaccines For Veterans
BROOKFIELD â The Brookfield office of Connecticut VNA, 777 Federal Road, will host a flu vaccine clinic at the office for individuals 18 years of age and over on Friday, November 9, between 1 and 4 pm. It is not necessary to make an appointment.
Medicare recipients should bring their Medicare cards with them so that Medicare Part B can be billed for the vaccine.
Anyone who has insurance through either Aetna or Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut, should also be sure to bring their insurance card with them so that their insurance company will be billed.
Anyone not covered by the above companies will be charged a fee of $35. Flu shots are being offered at no charge to veterans 18 years of age and over. Attendees are asked to wear short sleeves under their jacket or sweater to make it easier to administer the flu shots.
Influenza or âfluâ is a viral, respiratory infection that can make someone of any age ill. On an average, 20,000 people die from influenza every year. Connecticut VNA recommends vaccination for those people who are most at risk for serious complication; those over 65 or with chronic illnesses such as heart, kidney or lung disease, diabetes, etc, should be vaccinated every year. Others who should get the vaccine are those who live with or take care of people who are at risk.
This vaccine should not be taken by anyone with an allergy to eggs or egg products, is currently ill, has a high fever, or is pregnant. Persons with a history of Guillian-Barre Syndrome should consult with their physicians before receiving the vaccination.
