November Events With Alliance Française
WOODBURY â For the November program of Alliance Française of Northwestern Connecticut, Professor Ronald Tiersky of Amherst University has been invited to speak about âFrancois Mitterand, The Man and His Politics.â
St Martinâs Press has just published Prof Tierskyâs book about the same subject. The program will take place at Good News Café, 694 Main Street South in Woodbury (telephone 266-4663) on Sunday, November 19, at 3 pm.
After his presentation in French, Prof Tiersky will autograph his book, copies of which will be available for purchase at the café at a special price. All are invited to the program, even if they have little knowledge of the French language.
Wine and hors dâoeuvres, prepared by café owner and award-winning chef Carole Peck, are included in the price of $5 for Alliance Franciase members, $10 for non-members. To assist Ms Peck in her preparations, reservations are requested by November 10; call 263-4096.

In November
On Saturday, November 4, and Saturday, November 18, Allaince Française will also be meeting for Café-Conversations. These programs will run from 10 am to noon at Starbucks Café, Southbury Green, at 775 Main Street South in Southbury (telephone 267-7548).
At each Café-Conversation, a timely subject will be chosen for discussion, based on an article that will be read by participants upon arrival. It is advisable to arrive before 10:30 am in order to have time to read before the discussion begins. In case of snow, contact Starbucks about the possibility of cancellation.
Whether a beginner or fluent in French, anyone can enjoy meeting the friendly group. The Alliance Française is an international non-profit cultural and educational organization that has exposed thousands of people to French culture, civilization and language. The Alliance was founded in 1883 in Paris, where its central headquarters are still located.
There are five chapters in Connecticut, including the Woodbury-based AF of Northwestern Connecticut. Marcella Jackson of Woodbury is the current chapter president.
