Auditions Next Week For A New Musical At Conservatory

NEW MILFORD — The overwhelming success of Alice in Concert earlier this year, The Connecticut Conservatory of the Performing Arts has announced its next musical theatre production will be The Roar of the Greasepaint, The Smell of the Crowd.

With book, music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newly, the delightful and witty show will launch the Conservatory’s new millennium production season, which will also include several concerts and festivals.  “On a Wonderful Day like Today,” “The Joker is Me” and “Who Can I Turn To” are just some of the popular tunes from this musical about a “game of life” played out in the arena of any civilization.

With a cast of characters of at least 20 to 25, the production goes into rehearsal after Thanksgiving.  It will open January 22 and will finish its run on February 6.

Auditions will be held on Wednesday, November 3, from 8-9:30 pm, and Saturday, November 6, 2-4 pm.

Arlene Begelman, who has directed over 50 productions and is director and artistic director of the Connecticut Conservatory, is searching for singers, actors and movers ages 13 and up. Males or females can play the parts of Sir and Cocky; The Kid and Urchins (“Artful Dodger” type characters) must be triple threats.

Be prepared with a ballad or uptempo song for the audition with your own sheet music. The Conservatory will provide the accompanist. Bring a photo and resume.

For more information call The Connecticut Conservatory of the Performing Arts in New Milford at 860/354-2978.  The school is at 79 West Street.
