Support For The Scholarship

To the Editor:

I wish to extend a sincere thank you to the individuals and businesses who supported the 63rd Annual Newtown Scholarship Ball. Set to the theme of “A Night of Magic.”

The ball was held at The Heritage Inn in Southbury on Saturday, the 21st of October. As a result of your local support at the ball and your continued support throughout the year, in 1999 we awarded more than $151,000 in scholarship aid to more than 60 first year and continuing college students who reside in Newtown.

A sincere thank you is extended to the Newtown Scholarship Association Board of Governors. Your enthusiasm, generosity, and support are greatly appreciated. A very heartfelt thank you to this year’s Ball Committee, Deb Osborne, Carol Garbarino, Mary Ann Murtha, Terri Ann Martocci, Sherri Baggett, Cheryl Clark, and our Treasurer Barbara Borst. Your creativity was admired by all.

Deep appreciation is extended to the following benefactors for their generous support of the ball:

Dr and Mrs Humberto Buata, Mr and Mrs William Garbarino, Duracell Corporation, Mr and Mrs Joseph M. Maher, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Union Savings, and Ruth Wuerthele. I would also like to thank the following patrons for their generous support: Mr Andrew Cluff and Ms Elizabeth Caldwell, The Honorable Margot Hall and Mr Robert Hall, Dr Virginia King, Mr and Mrs James T. Morley, Jr, Mr and Mrs Robert T. Murray, Jr, Nanavaty and Nanavaty CPAs, Mr and Mrs James M. Osborne, Jr, Mr and Mrs Michael B. Osborne, Dr and Mrs John R. Reed, Mr and Mrs Herbert Rosenthal, Mr and Mrs Jack Ryan, Mr and Mrs Joseph Smialowski, and Mr and Mrs Brian C. White.

The guests enjoyed listening and dancing to the music provided by the Bob Button Orchestra. The orchestra was sponsored entirely through the generosity of the following individuals and businesses: The Bee Publishing Company, Chase Manhattan Bank, The Dock Inc., Mr Mark Fries and Ms Nancy Taylor, Dr and Mrs Peter Licht, Mr and Mrs James T. Morley, Jr, Newtown Chiropractic Health Center, Rock Ridge Builders, Inc., Studley and White Associates, and Bob Tendler Real Estate, Inc. Thank you for your generous donations.

Although I cannot list them all, my sincere gratitude goes out to the nearly 60 businesses and individuals who donated items to the silent auction. It was a tremendous success this year and it wouldn’t have been possible without your generosity. Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Petal Pushers for the dozens and dozens of roses they donated for our centerpieces. It was an unexpected gift and I cannot thank you enough.

To the entire community, a heartfelt thank you for making 63rd Annual Scholarship Ball a successful and enjoyable evening once again. You helped make magic for the youth of Newtown.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Gaston, President NSA
