Students Invited To Colonial Life Workshop
Students Invited To Colonial Life Workshop
In the last 300 years there have been many changes in the ways people make their living and furnish their homes. How do we find out about life in the past? Students will have a chance to listen and learn when Newtown Historical Society presents âColonial Life,â a one-hour hands-on workshop for kids.
The program will be offered on Friday, November 10, from 11 am to noon. (There is no school that day, in observance of Veteransâ Day.) If demand warrants, a second workshop from 12:30 to 1:30 pm will be added. âColonial Lifeâ will be presented at Matthew Curtiss House-Museum, at 44 Main Street in Newtown.
How did people keep warm? Where did children go to school? What did people do to earn a living, or just for fun? These and many other questions will be posed and then answered by an outreach representative from Connecticut Historical Society. A whole Colonial world will unfold as kids are transported in time through interactive discussion and show-and-tell.
Children will be able to handle Colonial objects such as a powder horn, a footwarmer and a wool carder. Colonial-style garments for boys and girls will be available to try on.
The event is open to all elementary-age school children and is free of charge. Space is limited and early registration is requested. Call Newtown Historical Society, 426-5937, for additional information or to register.
