Donations Needed For
Cullens Youth Tag Sale
The Cullens Youth Association, Inc. is seeking donations for its âTag Sale of the Centuryâ which is being planned to support the Camp Wipawaug property on Taunton Lake Road.
The association has been serving the youth of Newtown for more than 40 years. In December, 1958 the Scouts of Newtown, Inc. was created as a non-profit association that works to instill a sense of leadership and physical, spiritual and social strength in the youth of Newtown. In 1979 it was renamed in honor of the Rev Paul and Agnes Cullens, who organized the first Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops in Newtown in 1928 and 1929. In 1982 the present location of the Cullens Youth Association was chosen and construction began on the camp property. The current facility includes a lodge, a two-acre field, and a seven-acre lake set amidst 20 acres of New England forest.
The facilities are open to all Newtown youth groups, and provide a convenient meeting place for Boy Scout troops, a Venturing post, a Cub Scout pack, and various Girl Scout troops.
Cullens provides more than 150,000 youth activity hours per year and is funded entirely by private donations from local residents.
To continue to serve the youth of Newtown, the association will hold a tag sale on Saturday, November 13, in the Edmond Town Hall gymnasium. Items such as tools, kitchenware, books, jewelry, toys, furniture, garden items, sporting goods, clothing, household items, and music and CDs in good condition are needed. Donations can be dropped off at Cullens on Saturday, November 6, from 9 am to 2 pm; Sunday, November 7, from noon to 3 pm; Tuesday, November 9, from 7 pm to 9 pm; and at the town hall on Friday, November 12, from 7 pm to 9 pm. For more information call 426-1799 or 270-0674.
