Charles Huntington
Charles Richard Huntington, 74, a longtime teacher and coach at the Canterbury School in New Milford, died October 22 at New Milford Hospital.
He was the husband of Janet (Currie) Huntington and the father of Stephanie A. Dunn of Newtown.
Mr Huntington was born May 11, 1925, in Framingham, Mass., a son of Bernice (Halloran) Huntington of Framingham and the late Dana Huntington.
He graduated from Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H., and Williams_College_in Williamstown, Mass.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and had received the Purple Heart.
Mr Huntington served on the faculty of Storm King School in Cornwall, N.Y. for several years before moving to New Milford in 1969 and joining the faculty of the Canterbury School, where he served as an athletic director and hockey coach.
He was the founder of the New Milford youth hockey and soccer programs.
In addition to his wife, mother and daughter, he is survived by two sons, Dana C. Huntington of Hanover, Mass., and Christopher C. Huntington of New Milford; two other daughters, Susan J. Bishop of San Diego, Calif. and Sarah K. Barrows of Washington Crossing, Penn.; a brother, Myles Huntington of Falmouth, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 25 at the Chapel of Our Lady, Canterbury School.
