The changing of the seasonal flag on the Main Street flagpole has been rescheduled.

Originally planned for Saturday, October 26, the 20- by 30-foot American flag will instead be swapped out for the traditional 18- by 24-foot winter flag the following weekend.

Readers are invited to witness the biannual event now planned for 8 am Saturday, November 2. Keeper of the Flag Chris Gardner and members of Newtown Hook & Ladder Company and Newtown Lions Club will lower the summer flag before replacing it and raising the winter flag.

Gardner told The Newtown Bee last week that the new date was needed due to schedule conflict.

“I don’t think we’ve ever kept the summer flag up this late but it’s still in great shape and people love it,” he added.

Volunteers make sure the flag doesn't touch the ground during the changing of the winter flag to the summer flag on Main Street in May. The changeover from the summer flag to the winter flag, initially planned for this weekend, has been pushed out one week to November 2. —Bee file photo
