Jeep Hit Toyota

Newtown Police report Vanessa Williams, 41, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2010 Jeep, was backing from a designated parking spot at 75 Church Hill Road at 11:09 am October 4. A 2010 Toyota RAV4 owned by Carly Brennan of Newtown was parked in a designated parking spot to the right of Williams’ vehicle. The right front of Williams’ vehicle struck the left rear of Brennan’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Siobhan Rogers, 21, of Bridgeport, operating a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 1:54 pm October 9. She was traveling behind a 2017 Honda CR-V operated by Paul McNamara, 77, of Monroe. Police say McNamara slowed for traffic and Rogers did not, and the front of Rogers vehicle struck the rear end of McNamara’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Rogers was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

Distracted By Sign

Newtown Police report Martha Rodriguez, 60, of Fresh Meadows, New York, operating a 2009 Nissan RGE, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 5:28 pm October 9. Police say Rodriguez got distracted by a sign on the side of the road, veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

No injuries were reported. Rodriguez’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Started Too Soon

Newtown Police report Joseph Bromley, 67, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Alfa Stelvio, was stopped on Hawleyville Lane at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road at 3 pm on October 10. He was stopped behind a 2016 Mazda CX-9 operated by Isabel Darocha, 46 of Newtown. Police say Bromley started forward and the front of his vehicle struck the rear of Darocha’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

Bromley was issued a verbal warning for following too closely.

Didn’t Stop In Time

Newtown Police report Tegan Nowak, 20, of Oxford, operating a 2008 Jeep Commander, was stopped in traffic on Currituck Road, waiting to enter Main Street, at 4:36 pm October 11. She was stopped behind a 2017 BMW Q5 operated by Elizabeth Newnham, 49, of Southbury, who was also stopped in traffic. Police say the line of vehicles moved forward, and Nowak did not stop in time, with the front of her vehicle striking the rear of Newnham’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

No enforcement action is mentioned in the report.

Unfamiliar With Area

Newtown Police report Nekeith James, 31, of Lithonia, Ga., operating a 2021 Ram Promaster 2500, was traveling eastbound on Hattertown Road at 6:05 pm October 13. Judy Reppucci, 64, of Newtown, operating a 2008 BMW 328xi, was traveling northbound on Poverty Hollow Road. Police say James failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Hattertown and Poverty Hollow Roads, and the front driver’s side bumper of his vehicle struck the front passenger’s side of Reppucci’s vehicle. James said he was unfamiliar with the area and didn’t realize there was a stop sign there.

No injuries were reported. Repucci’s vehicle was towed.

James was given a written warning for failure to heed a stop sign.

Struck Trees Off Road

Newtown Police report Giovanni Cucco, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2001 BMW 325i, was traveling westbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 10 pm October 13. Cucco’s vehicle spun in the roadway, traveled off the side of the street, and came to a stop after striking some trees.

Newtown EMS evaluated Cucco, but he was not transported.

Cucco was issued a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hit Guardrail

Newtown Police report Abigail Gossett, 18, of Seymour, operating a 2000 Ford Taurus, was negotiating a curve while traveling westbound on Berkshire Road at 8:13 am October 14. Gossett’s vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail end, and then rotated right while skidding in the westbound lane.

Gossett complained of a numb left arm and was treated on scene by Newtown EMS.

Gossett was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Collision In Intersection

Newtown Police report Kenneth Caldwell, 25, of Danbury, operating a Subaru Crosstrek, was stopped at the Interstate 84 westbound exit 9 off ramp, intending to turn left onto Hawleyville Road at 5:34 pm October 16. Dale Morey, 60, of Brookfield, operating a 1987 Chevrolet V10 Blazer, was traveling northbound on Hawleyville Road. Police say Caldwell entered the northbound lane of Hawleyville Road as Morey entered the intersection. The front driver’s side of Caldwell’s vehicle struck the front passenger’s side bumper of Morey’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Caldwell was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Restricted Turn

Newtown Police report David Lato-Jensen, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2008 Volkswagen Passat, was turning westbound onto Church Hill Road from the driveway of 22 Newtown Road at 5:02 pm October 17. Frank Libero, 57, of Newtown, operating a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, was behind Lato-Jensen. Police say Lato-Jensen stopped in the roadway and his vehicle was hit from behind by Libero’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Lato-Jensen was giving a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Failure To Appear

Newtown Police report Molly King-Smith, 33, of Oxford, was arrested at 11:12 pm October 18 on the charge of second-degree failure to appear. She was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Newtown Police and Botsford Fire Rescue personnel responded to 276 South Main Street, at the entrance to Plaza South, around 12:30 Tuesday, October 18, following a crash between a dark silver Toyota Corolla (above) and a light silver Toyota Highlander. A Nuvance ambulance crew also responded to the crash after one of the drivers reported chest and shoulder pain from the seat belt. Both drivers were checked for injuries; each declined to go to the hospital. Both vehicles were towed due to damage.
