To the Editor:

Over the last few years, I’ve come to know and appreciate the work that Mitch has been doing on behalf of Newtown. Even more, I’ve come to know his motivation and character. He steadfastly wants to represent the people — all people — in his community.

Last year, I heard of some disturbing activity on a potential law being touted by some very conservative Republicans in the statehouse. They were trying to court him to add his support. I contacted Mitch, and we met for lunch. We talked about my experiences related to the proposed bill and he also shared his. He was sincerely listening and understood the breadth of my concerns. Shortly after, the proposed bill was dropped. Mitch listened. He understood. And he acted in accordance with what he agreed were likely the views of the people he represented, even though his own experience was counter.

Having a representative who has also fostered working relationships with many in the statehouse will continue to serve Newtown well.
