Police Reports October 9 - 20, 2013

DUI Incident

Police said that at about 1:35 am on October 11, they received a report that an erratically driven vehicle may have been involved in an accident on Appleblossom Lane, so they went to that area to investigate. Appleblossom Lane is a side street off South Main Street.

Police said they located the vehicle in question and investigated, after which they charged motorist Scott Kellerman, 40, of 132 Head O’ Meadow Road with driving under the influence, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, making an improper turn, and making a restricted turn.

Following processing, police released Kellerman on $500 bail for an October 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

NHS Disturbance

Police said they received to a report of a disturbance having occurred at Newtown High School at about 3:38 pm on October 9, so they went to the school to investigate.

Police said they spoke to school officials and to a 15-year-old boy in their probe, after which they charged the boy with breach of peace and with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police did not provide details on the incident that resulted in the arrest.

After arrest processing, police released the boy into his mother’s custody for an October 28 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Because the youth charged with the crimes is under age 18, police did not disclose his identity.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle collision happened on westbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Pole Bridge Road, about 10 am on October 13, police report.

In that incident, motorist Rose Sorcinelli, 76, of Kingston, N.Y., who was driving a 2006 Ford 500 sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Ashley Boyd, 26, of New Haven, who was driving a 2007 Mazda sedan, stopped behind the Ford, police said.

Motorist Scott Blakeman, 30, Shelton, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Mazda, pushing the Mazda into the rear end of the Ford, police said.

Ambulance volunteers responded to the accident, but all drivers refused medical attention, police said. Blakeman received an infraction for following too closely, police said.

Saturn Sky

Police report that motorist Anthony Magliocco, 24, of 85 Alberts Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Saturn Sky sports car on Barnabas Road, was driving too fast and then could not stop for a stop sign on Barnabas Road at its intersection with Tunnel Road at about 7:13 pm on October 15.

The Saturn drove across Tunnel Road and then vaulted off the road, landing on its wheels down an embankment alongside the road, police said.

Magliocco was not injured. Police said Magliocco received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to stop at a stop sign.

South Main Accident

At about 5:40 pm on October 15, near 308 South Main Street, motorist Shiara Lozada, 22, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, was waiting behind motorist Glen Davis, 44, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, police said.

The Chevrolet then rolled forward and struck the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Lozada for following too closely.

Driving Violation

Police report that at about 11:45 am on October 16, they stopped motorist Kristina Daniele, 23, of Danbury near 51 Berkshire Road (Route 34) for a driving violation.

After investigating, police charged her with driving with a suspended vehicle registration. Police said they released her on $250 bail for an October 30 court appearance.

DUI Warrant

Police report that at about 9:30 am on October 20, they went to Stamford Hospital to serve a warrant and arrested Ian Doerr, 23, of 49 Spring Trail, charging Doerr with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

The charges stem from a June 15 motor vehicle accident, police said. The collision occurred about 5:19 am that day near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Zoar Road.

Following processing, police released Doerr on $1,000 bail for a November 5 court appearance.

Wasserman Way

Police said that in responding to a complaint about a motorist’s driving behavior about 6:45 pm on October 18, they stopped motorist John Kovacs, 44, of Ridgefield to investigate. Kovacs had been driving a 1999 Ford van on Wasserman Way, police said.

Police report they charged Kovacs with driving with a suspended license.

Kovacs was released on $1,500 bail for a November 5 court appearance, police said.

Vehicular Crash

Police report that motorist Daniel Herbert, 18, of 2 Anthes Avenue was driving a 2001 Honda CRV SUV northward on Echo Valley Road at about 2:10 am on October 19, when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, and then flipped over, near 34 Echo Valley Road.

Herbert was not injured. The vehicle received heavy damage, police said. Herbert received an infraction for making a restricted turn, police said.

Mazda Vs Deer

At about 7 pm on October 20, motorist Eric Kurtz, 20, of 8 Diamond Drive was driving a 2010 Mazda 3 sedan westward near 68 Mt Pleasant Road, when a deer ran onto the roadway, resulting in the auto and the deer colliding, police report.

Kurtz was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. There was no enforcement.

Ford Truck

Motorist Richard Greiser, 65, of Easton was driving a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Ethan Allen Road, when a deer ran across the road, resulting in a collision at about 7:45 am on October 20, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Equipment Failure

At about 12:16 pm on October 16, motorist John Peters, Jr, 60, of 9 Arrowhead Lane was driving a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup truck northward on Old Green Road and then slowed to make a turn into the driveway at 35 Old Green Road, police said.

Peters then heard a noise and the vehicle then lost its steering, after which it hit a curb, went down an embankment and then struck a tree, police said.

Peters was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Walker Hill Road

A two-vehicle accident occurred on a curve on Walker Hill Road, near its intersection with Great Ring Road, about 5:30 pm on October 20, police said.

In that incident, motorist Dominic Uliano, 65, of 34 Swamp Road was driving a 2000 Ford F-350 truck northward, and motorist Marissa Faye, 20, of 8-A Walker Hill Road was driving a 2010 Honda CRV SUV southward, police said.

The two vehicles collided on the curve in the road, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Faye received a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Audi Vs Honda

An accident took place on westbound High Bridge Road at its intersection with Botsford Hill Road about 4:50 pm on October 19, police said.

In that incident, motorist Francesca Tuccinardi, 45, of Monroe, who was driving a 2007 Honda Pilot SUV, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Dawn Giannini, 44, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2011 Audi Q-5 SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Giannini received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Transfer Station

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the town’s waste transfer station at 199-A South Main Street about 11:13 am on October 16.

The accident involved motorist Burton Sturner, 76, of 57 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Outback SUV, and motorist Kevin Corrigan, 58, of 4 Driftway Drive, who was driving a 2002 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, police said. There were no injuries.

South Main Violations

Police said that they stopped motorist Nicole Green, 22, of Orange about 2:37 pm on October 17 near 29 South Main Street to investigate.

Police said they charged Green with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving, driving with a suspended license, and driving with a suspended vehicle registration.

Green was released on a written promise to appear in court on October 30.

Motorcycle Crash

State police report that motorcyclist Felipe Matias-Dossantos, 21, of Danbury was riding a 2005 Honda CBR-1000R on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 off-ramp at about 2:30 pm on October 19, when a vehicle in front of the motorcycle braked, so Matias-Dossantos braked.

After braking, the motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, lost control and slid onto the adjacent grass median, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the motorcyclist to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, state police said.

Matias-Dossantos received an infraction for driving a motorcycle without a motorcycle license and also received a written warning for failure to maintain position in a travel lane, state police said.

Exit 11 Accident

Motorist Imre Pogacsas, 22, of Shelton, who was driving a 1993 Honda Accord about 2:36 am on October 18, lost control of the auto on the Exit 11 off-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, after which the auto went off the right road shoulder and then struck a lightpost, knocking over the lightpost, state police said.

Pogacsas was not injured. He received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, about one-half mile west of Exit 10, about 6:36 pm on October 18.

Motorist Matthew Lasorsa, 21, of Katonah, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 BMW X-5 SUV, slowed for traffic, as did motorist Michael Kloss, 46, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta behind the BMW, state police said.

Motorist Jessica Schwartz, 23, of Andover, N.J., who was driving a 2000 Jeep, then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, pushing the Volkswagen into the rear end of the BMW, state police said.

Kloss was transported by Newtown ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital for treatment of pain, state police said. Schwartz received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

VW Vs Honda

About 9:12 pm on October 14, motorist Michael DeVito, 27, of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, changed lanes on eastbound Interstate near Exit 11 and struck motorist Yiying Cui, 23, of Newington, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic, state police said.

The impact pushed the Honda into some guardcabling but there were no injuries, according to state police.

State police said DeVito received an infraction for making an unsafe lane change, and Cui received an infraction for driving without a license.

Highway Accident

State police said that about 5:20 pm on October 14, motorist Carlos Cardenas-Peralta, 19, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Nissan Sentra, slowed for traffic on eastbound Interstate 84, about 300 feet west of Exit 11, after which the Nissan was hit from behind by an eastbound 1998 Honda CRV SUV driven by Jeanine Folkl, 21, of Florida, N.Y.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

I-84 Crash

About 3:50 pm on October 14, motorist Karen Pepper, 56, of Washington, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Outback eastward on Interstate 84 near Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was hit from behind by motorist Jayne Kerner, 23, of Brookline, Mass., who was driving a 2009 Toyota Corolla, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
