WAA Student Show On View This Month

WASHINGTON â The Washington Art Association Student Show will open Saturday, October 28, and will be on view through November 16. The public is invited to attend the opening reception on Saturday, October 28, from 3 to 5 pm.

The annual fine art exhibit showcases the talents of WAAâs students. Featured works include pieces by established artists with top gallery representation, as well as those yet waiting to be discovered.

WAA has long been known for its wide selection of classes for the beginner through advanced student, with many exhibiting professionals participating in the courses. Every class is represented in the annual student show, with work in a variety of mediums including sculpture, drawing and painting in oils, watercolors, pastel and colored pencil.

Washington Art Associationâs gallery is in Bryan Memorial Plaza, Route 47 in Washington Depot. Gallery hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm; and Sunday, 2 to 5 pm.

Not approving a development that has "checked" all the boxes because the NIMBY mob doesn't like it is wrong.

The town historically has strong collaboration with developers, but the primary obstacle arises from community opposition exerting undue influence on the zoning department. This "NIMBY" pressure often leads to project rejections that exceed the department's actual jurisdiction or authority. Consequently, developers face a limited set of options: either engage in expensive legal battles or leverage the Connecticut Affordable Housing Land Use Appeals Procedure (CGS § 8-30g) as a recourse.

You are correct, Bruce. I know how hard these plans are to put together, but I still believe that we can have more definitive and measurable goals. I know there are a number of units coming online, and the community truly needs them. If only we can move the development of affordable housing to more of a partnership between the community and the developers than the adversarial tug-of-war it seems to be now, that would be good progress.
