To the Editor:

With the upcoming election only a few days away, it is imperative that voters are informed of the candidates who would best serve them in the future.

There is no doubt that the Bush/Cheney ticket is above reproach, represents the moral issues we are all concerned with, and are looking out for our children, our seniors, and for those of us who are in between those years. George W. Bush is a man of intelligence, character, action, and caring. His running mate, Dick Cheney, has the same values and is so intelligent in the matters of finance and organization.

They are both devoted, loyal family men.

Mark Nielsen has put on a grand campaign to become our 5th District Congressman. He has been working for this position for over two years and never once lost sight of the much needed changes and reforms in the 5th District. He was always there for his constituents as a State Senator, and will be there for us as our Congressman. Mark is devoted to reform in education, taxes, and the campaign finance system. Mark is very interested in helping our seniors and making sure they get their prescription drugs at a fair price. He is certainly our reform candidate.

Senator John McKinney has proven his ability to represent us in Hartford. He is not reluctant to bring the concerns of his District to the Senate and fight for them. He fought to keep an enlarged maximum security prison out of Newtown. We need him to go back to Hartford to continue this great work.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Representative Julia Wasserman is a great representative of not only the 106th District but also all of Newtown. Without her we would not have had the opportunity to purchase the 38 acres of land on Commerce Road for $1 (that’s right a $1). The negotiations for the Fairfield Hills property is ongoing but not without a near future decision because of her working with the Office of Policy and Management and not letting them forget for a minute of the needs of Newtown. This is one of the biggest issues ever to face Newtown, and Julia is on top of it all the time.

Representative Pat Shea has proven herself in her first term in Hartford and the need for her to return to finish her agenda on education, taxes, and the needs of her constituents is important. She has only a small portion of Newtown as her District, but she is doing a big job for all of us in Newtown. Please remember her on Election Day.

Representative John Stripp also represents a small corner of Newtown, but does not let that stop him from representing all of us in Hartford. He has a great record and has the desire to return to finish the work he has begun.

Please get out and vote on November 7th! While in the voting booth, remember Bush/Cheney, Senator McKinney, Mark Nielsen, Julia Wasserman, Pat Shea, and John Stripp. These are the individuals I have the greatest respect for and whom I feel will represent us all well. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Marie Sturdevant
