Local Students Attend

FFA National Convention

The 72nd annual National FFA Convention held October 25 through October 28 brought several students from Nonnewaug High School to Louisville, Kentucky, where the convention was held.

FFA members from the Woodbury FFA Chapter at Nonnewaug who attended the three-day national convention included Ian Gereg, Mindy Crane, Christine Cuminale, Amanda Peterson, Brian Poole, and Hilary Sepe. The convention is held each year to honor the outstanding members, advisors, and sponsors for their dedication and accomplishments.

Ian was a National FFA Proficiency finalist in the area of Specialty Animal Production.

Mindy was in the National FFA Creed Contest.

Christine Cuminale, Amanda Peterson, Brian Poole, and Hilary Sepe received their American FFA Degrees.

The Woodbury FFA Chapter had teams of students (3-4 per team) who participated in the following Career Development Event Contests: Agricultural Communications; Agricultural Mechanics; Dairy Cattle Judging; Dairy Products Evaluation; Floriculture; Livestock Judging; and Poultry Judging.

Over 200 Connecticut FFA members attended the convention in Kentucky. The Housatonic Valley and Northwestern Regional FFA Chapters received National Chapter Awards this year. To obtain such an honor, these chapters put many hours into planning their activities around student, chapter, and community development.
