‘Danced Masks’ At IAIS

WASHINGTON — The Institute for American Indian Studies is presenting a temporary exhibit titled “The Spirit of the Mask: Danced Masks of American Indians from Mexico.”

The collection of 150 Mexican “danced masks” from Coleccion Ouroboros, a private collection provided to IAIS and publicly displayed for the first time, is on view in the George A. G. Darlow Exhibit Hall. The masks portray a wide array of cultural concepts which combine the Old and New Worlds in spectacular colors and designs.

The exhibit will remain at IAIS through December 30. IAIS hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5pm, and Sunday, noon to 5 pm. The museum, at 38 Curtis Road, can be reached by calling 860/868-0518.
