Both Drivers Warned

Newtown Police report Alexander Roman, 17, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Volkswagen Jetta, was attempting to turn left onto Main Street from Church Hill Road at 2:50 pm September 29. Lawrence Zicarelli, 42, of Cos Cob (Greenwich), operating a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling southbound and passing on the right a vehicle that was attempting to turn left from Church Hill Road onto Main Street. Police say Roman’s vehicle made contact with Zicarelli’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Roman’s vehicle was towed.

Roman was issued an infraction for passenger restrictions, and a verbal warning for failure to yield from a stop sign. Zicarelli was issued a verbal warning for unsafe passing.

Dropped Motorcycle At Pothole

Newtown Police report Michael Troutman, 57, of Shelton, operating a 1999 Harley Davidson FXST Softail, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 2:13 pm October 1. While entering a parking lot on Berkshire Road, police say Troutman attempted to avoid a pothole and lost control of the motorcycle, dumping the bike over on its side.

Troutman and a passenger were transported to Danbury Hospital for suspected serious injuries. The vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

Hit Stopped Vehicle

Newtown Police report William Stankiewicz, 26, of Danbury, operating a 2017 Ford Fusion, was stopped in the northbound lane of South Main Street at the intersection of South Main and Button Shop Road. He was stopped behind a 2018 Dodge Challenger operated by James Auten, 79, of Stratford. Police say Stankiewicz moved forward, and his bumper made contact with the rear bumper of Auten’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Stankiewicz was given a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Struck Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Aiden Budge, 19, of Newtown, operating a 1993 Honda Prelude, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way approaching Nunnawauk Road at 10:54 am October 7. While negotiating a curve in the roadway, police say Budge skidded off the right side of the roadway, and the left side of Budge’s vehicle collided with a utility pole off the right side of the roadway.

Budge was treated on the scene and transported to Danbury Hospital for a possible injury. His vehicle was towed.

Budge was issued an infraction for traveling unreasonably fast for conditions.

Too Fast For Conditions

Newtown Police report Jhon Garcia-Rojas, 46, of East Haven, operating a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 1:20 pm October 7.

He was traveling behind a 2020 Subaru Forrester operated by Sara Velardi, 33, of Maine, N.Y. Police say Velardi slowed in traffic and Garcia-Rojas was traveling too fast for the rainy conditions and the front end of his vehicle hit the rear end of Velardi’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Garcia-Rojas was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

One Injured in Collision

Newtown Police report John Laber, 86, of Ridgefield, operating a 2004 Buick Rendezvous, was traveling eastbound on the Interstate 84 exit 9 off-ramp at the intersection with Hawleyville Road at 3:39 pm October 8. Gheisha Escobales, 38, of Waterbury, operating a 2016 Mazda CX-5, was traveling southbound on Hawleyville Road in the same area. Police say Laber entered into the southbound travel lane of Hawleyville Road when it was unsafe to do so and the front right corner of his vehicle made contact with the right side of Escobales’ vehicle. Escobales’ vehicle traveled southbound and rolled onto its passenger side before coming to a stop.

Escobales was transported to Danbury Hospital with a suspected serious injury. Both vehicles were towed.

Laber was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Hit Deer

Newtown Police report Dupuy Aldophe, 37, of Trumbull, operating a 2016 Nissan Sentra, was traveling eastbound on Toddy Hill Road at 5:49 am October 9. A deer jumped from the woods in front of Aldophe, and was struck by Aldophe’s vehicle.

Aldophe was not injured. His vehicle was towed.

Wallet Stolen

Newtown Police report that on the afternoon of October 9, a new Louis Vuitton 7-inch “Classic” tri-fold wallet was stolen from a tag sale on Main Street. The wallet is described as brown in color with the signature “LV” and four petal flowers imprinted multiple times on the exterior of the wallet.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newtown Police Department and refer to case 2300014965.

Collision At Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Lucas Vivenzio, 16, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Subaru Legacy, was traveling eastbound on Castle Hill Road at 8:03 am October 11. Kyle Duval, 22, of Newtown, operating a 2011 Toyota Camry, was traveling westbound on West Street. Police say Vivenzio came to a stop for the stop sign at the intersection with West Street, then started to make a left turn onto West Street. The right front section of Vivenzio’s vehicle struck the right side of Duval’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Vivenzio was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Luis Degouveia, 29, of Waterbury, operating a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling northbound on Pole Bridge Road. He was traveling behind a 2009 Toyota Corolla operated by Libet Flores, 35, of Norwalk. Police say Degouveia rear ended Flores at the intersection of Pole Bridge Road and Jeremiah Road.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Degouveia was issued a verbal warning for following too close.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police arrested Charles Nehez, 80, of Harwinton, on the charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs at 3:46 pm October 14. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of November 1.
