To the Editor:

I am writing this in support of Rebekah Harriman-Stites as she runs for reelection to the Board of Education. As a graduate of Newtown High School, I personally know the level of dedication that she gives to the students. From reading my essay for college applications to reaching out with opportunities for youth political engagement, she has always been there for me and other students. She is a true champion of education and students themselves, which is vital for this position.

Rebekah has an impressive list of qualifications for this role, including past experience, leadership positions, policy changes, and continuous support for the wellbeing and growth of students. For example, she hired a grant writer to fund critical mental health support for all students. Equally as important, these examples prove her passion and dedication to our educational systems and to our students. As a student myself, I am indebted to Rebekah’s hard work on our behalf for the past four years, which has had a real impact on our schools — not only in the academic aspect, but the emotional and mental realms as well.

I am beyond grateful to Rebekah for her encouragement and support of my academic path, and I cannot wait to return the favor in my first time voting this fall. Please join me to reelect Rebekah Harriman-Stites to the Board of Education!
