A Full-hearted Endorsement For Bloom
To the Editor:
As Chelsea Handler recently stated, "Like so many across the country, the past presidential election and the countless events that have unfolded since have galvanized me. From the national level down to the grassroots, it's clear our decisions at the ballot box next year will mark a defining moment for our nation." And I will add that local, grassroots decisions at the ballot box this year, on November 7, here in Newtown, will also mark a defining moment.
Like so many others throughout countless towns across our country, I became involved in the past year in local politics in an attempt to make a difference. One of the friendliest and most welcoming faces I see consistently at town meetings is that of Jordana Bloom, who has lived in Newtown with her husband and four children for the last 15 years. She is not only one of those people who makes you feel that you belong and that she is genuinely happy to see you, but she is smart, quick on her feet, and a no-nonsense businesswoman. So imagine how delighted I was when I heard that Jordana was running for a District 2 seat on the Legislative Council.
Jordana gets things done. In 1990 she founded, designed, and managed one of the first up-market pet supply and gift boutiques in Connecticut, a store that won numerous customer awards and was immensely popular in the community. She will definitely bring this economic perspective and small-business experience to the Legislative Council role. In addition, having lived overseas with her husband and four children over part of the last 15 years, which exposed her to a wide range of experiences and cultures, Jordana brings a unique and most valuable perspective to Newtown.
Jordana has a Bachelor's Degree in art history and English from Dartmouth College and currently works in Newtown as the receptionist for local pediatrician Dr Laura Nowacki. While living with her family in China, Jordana worked as a parent volunteer at the Shekou International School in Shenzhen and served on their Parent/Teacher Board. She also worked as a parent volunteer at the International College of Spain in Madrid, led the school's PTA, served as parent coordinator for the school's International Baccalaureate review, and organized a highly successful International Bazaar.
Not surprisingly, Jordan wishes to "ensure appropriate focus on our schools, develop a prudent business environment, and encourage broader participation in government in order to ensure the long-term strength of our outstanding town." And most importantly, Jordana is passionate about being involved in local government and making the lives of Newtowners better. What more fitting way for her to do all of this than through a position on the Legislative Council?
I know that Jordana will bring much-needed fresh enthusiasm, experience, and energy to Newtown government through this position. For these reasons I full-heartedly endorse Jordana Bloom for a seat on the Legislative Council.
