Unbeaten Football Team Blanks Barlow
Newtown High School’s football team improved to 6-0 with a 41-0 blanking of host Joel Barlow of Redding, on October 23; the Falcons fell to 1-5.
The Nighthawks scored in a variety of ways to pull ahead 35-0 at halftime before coasting to victory. Quarterback Justin Dunn threw a touchdown pass to Ben Mason from 16 yards out, Jared Pearson found the end zone on a four-yard rush, and Ethan Carpenter earned pay dirt on a 61-yard punt return as Newtown built a 21-0 lead through one quarter of play.
In the second, Pearson added a one-yard scoring run, and Mason returned an interception 30 yards for the final score of the half. Mike Doyle tacked on a one-yard rush into the end zone in the second half.
Newtown, which has scored 40-plus points in every game, and has shut out three teams this fall. The Hawks will host Stratford on Friday, October 30, for Homecoming Night, under the lights at Blue & Gold Stadium, beginning at 7 o'clock.
