Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company members are inviting the public for an evening of food, music, and bourbon. A new event, Bourbon Tasting & Food Pairing, will be introduced at Sandy Hook’s main station, on Saturday, October 24.

Tickets are $75 each, are only 80 will be sold.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6:30 pm, with the bourbon tasting and meal pairing to follow at 7. Craft beer and wine will also be available for donation.

A silent auction and live music will also be part of the evening.

The event is a fundraiser for the volunteer fire company.

“This is something new and a little different for us,” Ryan Clark, Sandy Hook’s 2nd Assistant Chief, told The Newtown Bee. “We’ve done LobsterFest for years,” he said, referring to the company’s two-day event each June, “but this will be low-key, a little quieter.”

Sandy Hook 1st Assistant Chief Michael Burton and 1st Engineer Matt Dobson are also chairing the event.

“Craft bourbons are becoming increasingly popular,” Mr Burton said. “This will give people a chance not only to taste them, but to learn about the distilling process as well. And the food pairings by Butcher’s Best will really compliment the bourbons.”

Guests will sample Woodford Reserve, paired with a chicken thigh wrapped in bacon, with a bourbon glaze, over cheddar grits; Old Forester, paired with pork tenderloin with whipped potato and cherry bourbon sauce; and Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, with New York strip and scallops with corn succotash.

The dessert offering will be peaches and Jack Daniels Honey caramel sauce over Ferris Acres Creamery vanilla ice cream.

Butcher’s Best is catering the event. Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor is the event sponsor. Proper attire is suggested.

For tickets, contact Ryan Clark at 203-312-3512, or Mike Burton at 203-948-3648. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

The firehouse is at 18-20 Riverside Road.
