Qualifications Should Matter

To the Editor:

My name is Joe Egan, and I am asking for your vote on November 4th to be reelected as Judge of Probate for Northern Fairfield County. The position of Probate Judge is more important than most of our citizens might think in that Probate Judges touch the lives of more people than a Superior Court Judge ever will.  Most of you will never have the occasion to see the inside of a Superior Court courtroom.  On the other hand most of you, or your spouses, children or family members will in all likelihood have a matter in the Probate Court at one time or another.

It is a very serious job.  Qualifications and experience should matter.  When the next term begins I will have been an attorney for almost 44 years and a Judge for over 24 years.

In addition to presiding over the former Ridgefield Probate Court and the consolidated Northern Fairfield County District I have also sat in at least 15 other districts in my years on the Bench.  In addition to my judicial duties I have been an active participant in the state and national judicial organizations.  At the state level I serve on the Executive Committee and am the Nominating Chair of the Connecticut Probate Assembly.  At the national level I served on the Executive Committee of the National College of Probate Judges from 2001- 2009 and in November, 2007 was installed as only the 2nd President from Connecticut in its then 40 year history.

In conclusion, I feel my judicial demeanor, qualifications and experience make me the most suitable candidate and I ask for your vote on November 4th.

Thank you,

Joe Egan
