Troop 270 Celebrates
Its 60th Eagle Scout
Alex DiNoto, son of John and Mary Beth DiNoto, received his Eagle Scout Award from Troop 270 at a Court of Honor ceremony recently held at Newtown Meeting House. He was the 60th member of the troop to earn Boy Scoutsâ highest honor.
The requirements to achieve Eagle Scout include earning a minimum of 21 merit badges, including 12 of them being required for Eagle. Alex earned 34 merit badges during his scouting career.
Alex also earned other special awards, including Troop Spirit awards, 50 Miler Award, and the National 100 Nights of Camping award.
In addition to the merit badges required for Eagle Scout, Alex needed to demonstrate leadership though a community service project. Alexâs Eagle project involved assisting Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Company and other first responders in efficiently finding the proper house in an emergency. Alex surveyed the Dodgingtown area for houses that did not have numbers on their respective mailboxes and then he applied mailbox numbers for those homes that requested them.
Alex is also a member of the Order of the Arrow, Scoutingâs National Honor Society. He attended the 2005 National Scouting Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. Alex was a member of Troop 270 for seven years.
Alex is currently attending Northeastern University in Massachusetts.
