To the Editor:

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jan Brookes for several years. I knew her when she was an outstanding Newtown High School teacher, garnering the respect of teachers and students alike. I knew Jan Brookes as a dedicated volunteer striving to build a better community. I knew Jan Brookes when she was lauded for her contributions to the youth of our town. I had the good fortune to be a colleague of Jan Brookes and watched, firsthand, as she devoted hours working with youth and parents for causes in which they and she believed. Jan Brookes is a decided asset!

I know that Jan Brookes is a woman of great integrity, quiet dignity, empathy, intelligence, and grace. Her record on the Legislative Council speaks for itself. Whenever a new subject was to be discussed, Jan Brookes researched until she was clear about its background and thoroughly studied its impact on our town. She bides her time and, when she feels the moment is appropriate, skillfully states her beliefs. She is a consensus builder and does not hesitate to work collaboratively with members of different parties. Jan Brookes is a decided asset!

Though I am not a resident of District 3, I am certain Jan Brookes will continue the good work she began two years ago. She speaks with a soft voice, but do not be deceived, she is a woman of great accomplishment and unwavering dedication to Newtown. She will represent District 3 in a manner of which residents would be proud. Jan Brookes is a decided asset!

Please join me in supporting the candidacy of Jan Brookes for reelection to the Legislative Council from District 3. You will not be disappointed as Jan Brookes is a decided asset!
