To the Editor,

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Debbie Leidlein for Newtown’s Board of Education. I have known Debbie for several years and have found her to be very high-energy and community-oriented. She has a tireless commitment to Newtown and has proven this through her involvement in PTA, Newtown’s new Education Foundation, and Women Involved in Newtown. Debbie is an educator herself and has three children making use of the Newtown school system. She is in a unique position to bring knowledge, organization, and drive to the school board.

A strong education system is important to all of us in Newtown. Debbie has a strong desire to enhance our schools, and she has already implemented some of her creative ideas. She has spearheaded the Newtown Education Foundation, an organization that will help supplement the school budget by funding special projects initiated by teachers. I have worked with Debbie on this endeavor and have been impressed with her drive and passion for education.

In addition to conceiving of the Education Foundation and recruiting support for it, Debbie has also been very active with the PTA in town. She is currently the PTA president for the middle school and works with the PTA for Middle Gate School. Debbie has also done extensive charity work with Women Involved in Newtown. She was president of the organization for two years, coordinating all of the group’s volunteer activities, and continues to work with WIN today.

Debbie’s community spirit and dedication to education are inspiring. Her enthusiasm and experience will be important assets to the Board of Education.
