NSA Fundraiser

Was Unhampered By The Weather

By Sherri Smith Baggett

The threat of rain did not dampen the spirits of the many enthusiastic people adventurous to try new and favorite red, white and sparkling wines at the annual wine tasting sponsored last weekend by Newtown Scholarship Association.

Sticks and Stones Farm of Newtown graciously opened their doors to a crowd of over 100 people attending the October 17 event. In fine fall fashion, the weather was crisp, the doors were open and the casual feeling of home in the barn was more than comfortable.

Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor sponsored the wine, providing over 50 varieties to be tasted. Spread throughout the barn were many tables displaying silent auction items from baskets of fall harvest wines, floral arrangements with local restaurant gift certificates attached, sports memorabilia and various other items donated by Newtown businesses. A live auction was conducted as well. Refreshments were provided by the Newtown High School Culinary Department.

Newtown Scholarship Association was established as a non-profit organization in 1937 to promote and advance the education of secondary school graduates by providing financial assistance to promising students. The money raised from the wine tasting will help assure that a worthy Newtown student may obtain a college education.
