I too have been bothered by the paint spills mentioned by Ms Greenwood in her letter dated October 9 and have wondered why they have not been addressed. Particularly the spill at our flagpole which happened right before our Labor Day parade and definitely mars the beauty of Main Street. Why were the persons responsible for the spills not held accountable for their cleanup? I’m sure there’s no specific line item for cleaning up paint spills, but surely road repair and cleanup is in our budget.

In reference to Ms. Turco’s comment that the spill was accidental: Had the paint spill been intentional, would it have received attention? What if it had been graffiti or profanity? Would that have been addressed?

There must be an economical way to remedy this. I have to believe Ms Greenwood would not propose cleaning up paint spills at the expense of our children’s education. If a lack of funding is the issue, I personally volunteer to help with the cleanup.

Let’s keep it Nicer in Newtown.
