Drawing The Figure, At Next SCAN Meeting
Drawing The Figure, At Next SCAN Meeting
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will welcome Vincent Giarrano, who will demonstrate his approach to drawing the figure at the next meeting of SCAN on Wednesday, October 28, at 1:30 pm.
The program will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. The public is invited. Admission is free.
Mr Giarrano will demonstrate a very organized approach to drawing the figure from life.
âThe human form is a lot to deal with,â said the artist. âWhat I do is divide the work up and take things in their proper turn. For beginners itâs a great introduction and for intermediate artists a way of improving.
âLife drawing is an important practice for all artists, it trains your âartistic eyeâ and strengthens your work, especially painting.â
Vincent Giarrano is a realist painter living in Connecticut. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he started drawing at an early age, teaching himself until his first life drawing class at age 17. Mr Giarrano attended the State University of New York, where he earned his BFA. He then went on to Syracuse University for his masterâs degree.
After completing his academic studies, Mr Giarratano lived in New York City, working in the field of illustration. Since moving to Connecticut he has returned to fine art oil painting and has shown his work nationally and throughout New England, winning many awards.
Mr Giarratanoâs work is based on naturalism; painting scenes or objects in their natural state. He employs a variety of subjects;: still life, figures and landscapes. The unifying factor is the quiet and sincere moments he captures which have an introspective quality.
âI paint what speaks to me about real life experiences. I want my viewer to feel the true to life quality of my scenes,â says the artist.
Admission for the SCAN program is free, and reservations are not needed. Additional information is available, however, from Ruth Newquist; call 426-6654.
