BETH URDANG, COLIN BRANT w/1 cut
ak/gs set 10/23 #716874
BOSTON, MASS. â Beth Urdang Gallery is presenting its second exhibition of paintings by Colin Brant, an artist from New York, on view through November 24.
Brantâs exquisite landscapes are gently evocative of a dazzling array of art historical movements including folk art and primitivism, Luminism, Nineteenth Century Hudson River painting, magic realism and Surrealism, yet it is his unique perspective which renders them so fresh and personal. There is no mistaking a painting by Brant for anyone elseâs work: lush, meticulously painted, charming and sophisticated, each painting is about a moment that could be rooted in reality, but whose idealized vision and playfulness seems as much about yearning as actuality. Beautiful light, attention to detail, and rich color are Brantâs trademarks, yet thereâs always an edge to these works which sets him apart.
Brant received his BA from The University of California at Santa Cruz and an MFA from The University of Iowa. He is the recipient of numerous awards including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation artist grant for painting. Most recently his paintings have been seen in exhibitions in New York City and Brooklyn. Brantâs paintings are included in many distinguished private and corporate collections.
The gallery is at 129 Newberry Street. For further information, 617-424-5550 or www.bethurdanggallery.com.
