CLASH 6, KRYPTONITE 2: Garrett Hahn scored four times as the Clash defeated the Kryptonite. Bryan Lacouture also added a goal and the Kryptonite contributed with an own goal off a corner kick. Billy Mongera, Steven Klucik and Matt Brede played well for the Clash. For the Kryptonite, Nick Pollard and Kyle Shevlin both scored goals. Justin Carotti had an assist while Dylan Keane and Stephen Borchetta played well.
GIRLS C/D DIVISION
TOES OF FIRE 4, HOTSHOTS 2: Lilian Campbell scored two goals while Laura Reid and Liz OâConnell scored one apiece, leading the Toes of Fire to a come-from-behind win. Jess Halloran powered the defense. For the Hotshots, Katlin âCatâ Williams scored twice while Alicia Rogers, Kristen DeCesare and Kerrianne DeCesare all played well.
HAWKS 3, STRIKERS 2: In a fiercely-contended match at St. Rose field on Saturday morning, the Hawks outlasted the Strikers by a score of 3-2 in a contest that was marked by exceptional offensive and defensive play at both ends of the field. Courtney Brunton and Elizabeth LaPerch tallied goals for the Strikers. For the Hawks, the key to the win was the tenacious defense of the entire team led by Jackie Ercole, Elaine Bomely and Alicia Woolf, and the cagey goalkeeping of Megan Kelley and Wendy Borst.
HAWKS 0, TOES OF FIRE 0: Meaghan Kelly, Jackie Ercole and Lauren Babbage played well for the Hawks while Jess Halloran, Lee Proctor, Aime Clavette and Jackie Gutbrod paced the Toes..
TOES OF FIRE 3, DYNAMITE 0: Alicia Kulp scored a pair of goals and Laura Reid added another as the Toes of Fire blanked the Dynamite. Elizabeth OâConnell and Jess Halloran had strong performances. For the Dynamite, Aileen Kerns and Danielle Nicolosi led the offense while Amanda Roy and Mandy Black were solid in goal.
GIRLS E DIVISION
BOMBERS 3, TORPEDOES 1: Casey Schultz, Sara Kelley and Lindsey Lively all scored to lift the Bombers to the win. June Repasi and Kaitlyn Marsden played solid defense. For the Torpedoes, Emily Boncek scored the lone goal while Stacy Broughton, Marina Virgalla, Gina Pisacreta and Caleigh Doyle played well.
RAPTORS 5, MIGHTY TIGERS 0: Natalie Villa scored two goals while Jennifer Brewer, Meaghan McCarthy and Tory Boushell scored one apiece to lead the Raptors to the win. Jen Brill had an assist. For the Tigers, Marnie Thompson, Sarah Shannon and Nicole Haylon all played well.
NIGHTMARES 3, TIGERS 0: Katie Powers scored two goals and Kelsey Phillips added one to lead the Nightmares past the Tigers. For the Tigers, Stephanie Soder, Maura McDade and Tara Belmont all played well.
RAPTORS 2, BOMBERS 2: In a hard fought battle to a tie, both the Raptors and the Bombers showed a great effort. For the Raptors Jen Brewer scored both goals while Jen Brill and Chelsea Laker support the cause. The Bombers Kasey Schulz scored both goals assisted by Lindsey Lively and Katherine Stanton. Sara Kelly anchored a strong defense.
PANDA BEARS 0, RAPIDS 0: Lily MacHugh, Jocelyn Pasko, and Kendra OâConnor played well for the Bears while Alanna Gilbert, Sarah Peck and Adelle Cerreta paced the Rapids.
BOYS E DIVISION
PANTHERS 3, TORNADOES 2: Michael Giglio, Peter Walsh and Evan Ritzinger scored the goals that lifted the Panthers to the win. Kyle Hufzinger was exceptional on defense along with Daniel Burns. For the Tornadoes, Ryan DiLuoffo and Hiram Orama both scored. Nicholas Maccharoli had a strong all-around game and John Sapienza was solid on D.
LIGHTNING 3, HURRICANES 2: Samuel Morrison scored a pair of goals and Tyler Edwards added one to lead the Lightning to the win. Oskar Dean was solid on offense and Keith McGrath did a fine job in net. For the Hurricanes, Dan Cassidy scored two goals as Alex DiNoto and Stephen Dworkin were strong on defense in front of goaltender Ben Spiegel.
EAGLES 1, COYOTES 1: Jonathan Zigman of the Eagles and Kyle Droniak of the Coyotes scored the only goals in this 1-1 tie. For the Eagles, Nathan Barrett, Daniel McSweeney and Alex Kron played well. For the Coyotes, Stephen Sapienza and Patrick Stein powered the defense.
ROADRUNNERS 2, CHEETAHS 0: Jake Woolf scored twice to lift the Roadrunners to the win. Nick Ciarelli and Peter Griffiths did a great job on offense while Vince LaFrancesca, Christopher Murphy and Kyle DiNicola powered the defense. For the Cheetahs, Will Werner and Michael Dailey led the offense while Ian Cooper and Spender Scott paced the D.
TORNADOES 1, EAGLES 1: Tory Deakin of the Tornadoes and Marc Boncacci of the Eagles scored the goals in this 1-1 tie. For the Tornadoes, Tyler Covert and Thomas DiLuoffo played well on defense, as did goaltender Zack Dent. Ben Murphy had the assist. For the Eagles, Colby Summerlin had the assist while George Delia and Jamie Radcliffe powered the D.
GIRLS F DIVISION
TORNADOES 4, DOLPHINS 0: Kate Bowen scored a pair of goals while Katie Pessin and Stephanie Sanchez scored one goal apiece to lead the Tornadoes past the Dolphins. Kelly Anne Brophy had an outstanding game. For the Dolphins, Becky Lipnick, Danielle Bonsignore, Becca Castegner and Allie Wessell all played well.
LIGHTNING 1, ROCKETS 0: Paige Woodhouse intercepted a goal kick and passed to Taylor Smith, who drilled a shot for the only score of the game. Michelle Salem and Amanda Swift were solid on offense as Samantha Wray played well on D. For the Rockets, Jennifer Hammer and Jessica Lynch were strong on offense while Madeline Gagne and Elanor Uaschuld powered the defense.
STRIKERS 2, DOLPHINS 1: For the strikers, Jillian Jagoe and Ellen Ritzinger each scored a goal. Nicole Gindraux was awesome in goal and Emma Kingsley played well. For the Dolphins, Rebecca Castenger scored a goal, Alison Pliszka played well in goal and Becky Lipnick had a good game.
EAGLES 1, STRIKERS 1: For the Eagles, Kristen Tanner scored, Sarah Attanasio and Sheena Finlayson played great defense and Alexandra Fuentes put up a strong offense. For the Strikers, Leah Barrett scored for the tie. Nicole Nonnenmacher, Morgan Schick and Lila Kohrman-Glaser all played very well.
HURRICANES 3, TIGERS 0: Berenice Bryant scored a pair of goals and Katie OâDell added one as the Hurricanes blanked the Tigers. Meghan Bridges, Jacey Johns and Kristin Stoller all played well on defense. For the Tigers, Meaghan Wilson and Madeline Keane powered the offense as Brittany Soucar and Jennifer Smith led the defense.
BOYS F DIVISION
TIGERSHARKS 2, ROADRUNNERS 2: After nearly an entire half of hard-fought soccer, Trevor Todd broke the scoreless tie with the gameâs first goal. Lewis Thompson added the second âShark goal in the third quarter. The Roadrunners kept it close with a strike from James Truckle. Kyle Moore knotted the game for good with a last second goal. William Arndt lead the Sharkâs offense attack, and Dan OâConnor anchored the defense with his sure-hands between the pipes. For the Roadrunners, Zach Bryan kept the pressure on, and Haakon Sorenson had a strong game on defense.
TIGERSHARKS 2, SHARKS 2: In a battle between large sea predators, the Tigersharks and the Sharks swam to a 2-2 tie. Drew Robinson drew first blood with two quick goals for the Sharks. Collin Gage supplied the Shark offensive support, and Bryan Czel kept the Tigersharks quiet with outstanding play in goal. The Tigersharks exploded in the second half with the solid right foot of William Arndt who scored 2 Tâshark goals to tie the game. Christian Gregoire fed the Tigershark attack; and Jeffrey Russell and Nicholas Dee anchored the defense.
ROCKETS 3, ROADRUNNERS 3: Kevin Carney scored a pair of goals and Richard Andreotta scored one as the Rockets tied the Roadrunners. Ryan Cassidy and Yanni Koutmos both played well. For the Roadrunners, Kyle Moore scored a pair of goals and Danny Sclafani added one. Doug Brede was solid on defense while Chris Haylon supported the offense.
DRAGONS 1, TRITANS 0: The Dragons offensive fire was fueled by aggressive play from Sean Maher, Jason Marks and Gregory Campbell while Dylan Berger, Jonathon Frey and Theo Hartlett all played well for the Tritans. Joe Christiano scored the lone goal, in the match, for the Dragons as they went on to win 1-0.
WOLFPACK 3, TRITONS 1: Colby Summerlin scored two goals and Ashwin Ramaswami added one to lead the Wolfpack past the Tritons. Tim Roberts and Hutch Bermingham led the D. For the Tritons, Ben DâAgostino scored the goal while Matt Hoeffel and Conrad Normann played well on defense.
GIRLS U10 TRAVEL
HURRICANES 1, BROOKFIELD (B) 1: Only a spectacular save by Brookfieldâs goalie on Megan Hansenâs penalty kick prevented the Hurricanes from posting their fifth consecutive victory. Emily Weber along with Hanah Tenenbaum applied constant pressure all afternoon to Bookfieldâs defense. Nora Lynn Shimko scored the lone goal for the hard fought tie.
BOYS U10 TRAVEL
SHERMAN 2Â NEWTOWNÂ 0: This was a very close, well played game throughout. The offensive play was led by Daniel Kowarcick and Jason Kostecki. Mike Kearns had an outstanding game on defense, while Daniel Quinn came up with some big saves in goal.
BOYS U11 TRAVEL
VIPERS 10, SHEPAUG 0: The Vipers bit into Shepaug Valley and through solid, confident defense managed to shut them out. Danny Smith and Alex Bowen tended to Newtownâs net with Mat DeBrantes, Tony Gallucci, Kevin Davies and Nick Kallivrousis all forming a defensive core that denied every attempt by Shepaug. Bowen also netted three goals in the first half and with Kevin Troyâs additional two the Vipers held a comfortable 5-0 halftime lead. Some position changes lead to five additional goals by D. Smith, Justin Miller, Drew Taylor, Paul Andras and Chris Schreiber. Zachary Varga and Ethan Canfield both helped push the offense with intense midfield minutes. Newtownâs 5-1-0 record and third shut out in six division matches keeps them in a strong second place position with three games to be played.
BOYS U12 TRAVEL
RAGE 2, NEW FAIRFIELD 2: Newtown played to a 2-2 tie with New Fairfield. Ross MacLeod and Jack Quinn scored for Newtown, assisted by Michael Kennedy and Matt Norris. Matt Boland and Billy McCann played very well defensively for the Rage. Mark Cinquegrana had a strong game in midfield for Newtown.
GIRLS U12 TRAVEL
NITROS 5, SHERMAN 0: After being stymied on offense last week, the Nitros exploded against Sherman with a balanced attack, getting five goals from five different players. The scoring began in the first minute of play with a quick shot from Meredith Palo, followed by goals from Darcy Fiscella, Rose Jackman, Sarah Gutbrod and Lindsay Weber. Sherman never mounted a serious threat, thanks to the solid midfield play and passing of Jennifer Iassogna and Sarah Wilson.
GIRLS U14 TRAVEL
KNOCKOUTS 4, WESTPORT 3 (State Cup): The Knockouts have made it through to the semi-final round of the State Cup competition. Still missing two key players, some members of the team found themselves playing in different positions. The adjustments worked as the Knockouts were fired up all over the field. Kristin Davis, normally playing as stopper, found that striker was a good place for her. She scored three of the goals with keeper Christina Wolf adding one on a penalty kick. Karoline Engel was strong in the defensive role new to her and worked well with sweeper Kelly Corrigan and defender Stacy Shpunt in keeping the back organized. Kate Stickles challenged everything in the midfield with the help of Amanda Shevlin, Sarah Salbu, and Tara Ryan at stopper. Quincy Blanchard supplied the offense with plenty of long balls that kept Caitlyn Barksdale, Caitlyn Kuhn, and Megan Regnery attacking the Westport net all game. The Knockouts will face Norwich next Saturday in the semi-final match at Treadwell Park at 4 pm.
