Deb Osborne, a Garden Club of Newtown member since 1999, will share a slide show presentation of the “Flora and Fauna of South Africa” at the next meeting of The Garden Club of Newtown. The program will be offered on Tuesday, October 27, at 1 pm, in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Ms Osborne recently enjoyed a trip to South Africa, and her photos will serve as the basis for her program.

Beginning in Capetown in the foothills of Table Mountain, Ms Osborne will share her day trip to the Cape of Good Hope where the penguin colony and seals put on an interesting display. She will also discuss the winelands of Franschhoek and Stellenbosch where she learned about stump grape vines — a new twist on an age-old process. Included will be close-up photographs of baboons roaming everywhere, even wrestling right along the side of the roads.

Ms Osborne will show views of the farm country in Durban, through which she traveled on the way to the Zula Nyala Reserve and her week-long safari experience.  Throughout her narrative presentation she will share amazing photos of the animals and unusual flowers of South Africa.

Besides being a world traveler, Ms Osborne is an award-winning floral designer who is pursuing  her interest in improving her natural design skills through the National Garden Club’s Flower Show School. This program will also prepare her to become a flower show judge.

The public is welcome; there is a guest fee of $5 for non-members of the Club. Registration is not required.
