Workshop On Family Grief Geared To Parents, Grandparents, Guardians

DANBURY — When a child loses a loved one it may be difficult to know how to help. Children grieve differently than adults and may not be able to put grief into words. They may feel uncomfortable expressing themselves in ways that adults expect.

The upcoming workshop “What I Need to Know About Family Grief” will help parents, grandparents, and guardians learn how to create an open and comforting environment that will allow children to ask questions and freely discuss their thoughts and feelings. A video presentation and discussion will include families’ personal stories and strategies that have helped them move forward.

“What I Need to Know About Family Grief” will take place Tuesday, October 26, from 3 to 4:30 pm, at the Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families at 73 Stadley Rough Road.

The workshop facilitator is Sherry Renne, MSW, a facilitator at The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families. She earned a master’s in social work from Fordham University and has experience providing trauma-focused treatment for individuals and families.

The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families is a program of Regional Hospice. The agency’s Caring Continuum — Homecare, Hospice, and Healing Hearts — provides care, comfort and compassion for those touched by life-limiting illness and loss.

Regional Hospice serves Newtown and numerous other communities in the region, offering patients and families help with any stage of end-of-life care.
