Stopper

Founding Member Human Resource Planning Society

William G. Stopper, 76, of Ridgefield, husband of Letitia “Letty” Stopper, died October 9, at the Cancer Treatment Center of America, Philadelphia. Mr Stopper was born in Hollywood, Calif., November 11, 1933, son of Pearl (Bertin) and George Stopper.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, Letty, he is survived by a son, Joseph M. Stopper of Newtown; two daughters, Tracey L. Elston of Newtown and Lisa M. Stanley of Ridgefield; three sisters; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

He served in the US Army in Washington, D.C. Mr Stopper joined International Business Machines (IBM), retiring as director of human resources after 35 years of service. He was a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, and was a founding member of the Human Resource Planning Society. Mr Stopper was a partner in the Walker Group of La Jolla, Calif., for several years, and maintained a human resource consultancy. He was the interim director and pressor of the Graduate and Professional Studies at Manhattanville College in New York.

A devoted Christian, he worshipped at St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Ridgefield and other nondenominational Christian churches.

Funeral services took place October 18 and he will be buried at St Mary’s Cemetery in Ridgefield.
