It was interesting to read the endorsement by CT-PACE, the Connecticut division of NASW, of Michelle Mount. While the Connecticut chapter appears to speak for some of its members, it is presumptuous to assume that they speak for all social workers in the State of Connecticut, those licensed and those who are not licensed.
As a social worker in Connecticut, I personally endorse DebraLee Hovey for reelection. DebraLee has many accomplishments to her credit, including a multimillion-dollar grant for Masuk High School, over $2,500 for Fan Fare Concert programs in our schools; she is a child advocate for those who are unable to speak in our schools and community. Look around and you will see her at events and local town meetings. We do not have to go to Hartford to talk with her; she lends herself to townsfolk with local meetings and local availability in Monroe and Newtown. She has supported legislation that allows for cheaper prescription medications for seniors, many of whom have financial constraints. She has voted for increased funding for our transportation needs, supported legislation that now allows children with autism insurance coverage. As a parent of a child on the autism spectrum, there are no words to convey my gratitude to her for her efforts to ensure that children who have that diagnosis now have coverage.
DebraLee is an educator, a leader who hears what we, the public, say and brings our voice to Hartford. I say let her continue to carry our words in the years to come. Vote for DebraLee Hovey on Election Day; I am.
