School Board Unveils Its ‘Perspectives’

The Board of Education released its first “BOE Perspectives” article last week. As school board Chairman William Hart said at the board’s Tuesday, October 5, meeting, the purpose of the monthly releases are to “reach out broadly to the community.”

In accordance with that purpose, the school board also plans to hold “Coffees with the BOE” meetings to give the community a chance to informally speak with school board members. The first of these meetings is scheduled for Tuesday, October 26, at 7 pm, at Newtown Middle School. More information on the event, and the school board’s full “BOE Perspectives” October article, is available on the school district’s website www.newtown.k12.ct.us and at www.newtownbee.com.

“These articles are designed to provide information on the school system and the activities of the Board of Education,” Mr Hart wrote as an introduction. “They are intended to represent the consensus of the Board rather than the opinion of a single board member. The BOE Perspectives is part of the Board’s overall program to improve communication with the community.”

The first article is titled “Focus on Education,” and lists the school board’s goals for the 2010-2011 school year, as passed by the school board during its October 5 meeting.
