Hawk Spikers Return To Winning Ways

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team carried a four-match winning streak into the middle of this week’s action.

All four wins, over Pomperaug of Southbury, Notre Dame-Fairfield, Brookfield, and Oxford came by 3-0 scores.

Newtown, in its 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-16) win over visiting Brookfield on October 15, got 15 assists from setter Jess Lynch, who helped set up five kills from Emma Herring, four kills from Amanda Rowan, and three kills from Maddy Good.

The Nighthawks got four service aces from Herring, and three from Riley Wurtz. Good, Courtney Escoda and Wurtz all had seven digs.

With the 3-0 (25-8, 25-19, 26-24) win at Oxford on October 18, the Nighthawks improved to 10-3 overall and 8-1 in he South-West Conference.

Herring had six kills and three aces, Rowan contributed seven kills and three aces, and Abbey Doski added nine digs.
