Lightning Pumpkins 4, Rainbow Rockets 2: The Lightning Pumpkins won behind an offensive outburst from Catie Teixiera, who scored all four goals with help from Maleeha Ali and Melissa Schnee keeping the pressure on the defense. Molly Connors and Lacy Newton played great on defense and Anna Metzker and Alexis Woods had several excellent saves in goal. The Rainbow Rockets attack was led by Emily Longo scoring the team’s two goals. Strong on offense were Allison McCarthy and Julia Kaiser. Defensively, Emily Dunford and Mikaela Anthony did well at holding back the opposing team. Keen goaltending was presented by Mia Hochstetler and Ashley Gotch.

Fighting Irish 2, Rainbow Rockets 1: For the Fighting Irish, Ella Hage and Shannon Kelleher scored a goal apiece. Olivia Nikolis played a strong defensive game and Sarah Bertsche was outstanding on both sides of the ball. For the Rainbow Rockets, playing very strong on offense and scoring the Rockets only goal was Allison McCarthy. Mikaela Anthony led the defensive effort against the Fighting Irish with Mia Hochstetler showing keen goaltending with five saves.

Fighting Irish 2, Tigers 0: For the Fighting Irish, Ella Hage led the attack scoring goals with some nifty assistance from Madison Freeman. Carly Decker’s intensity kept the Irish in the game and Elise Barricelli was outstanding on defense. Amanda Stowe and Lauren Milligan kept the game close for the Tigers with some amazing saves in goal, while Kristen Reisert and Emily Lash led the offensive effort.

Blue Breeze 3, Lightning Strikes 2: In an exciting match that went down to the wire, the Blue Breeze jumped off to a quick start, taking a 3-0 lead on goals by Olivia Buchler, Maddie Stites, and Natalie Sim. who were assisted by Morgan Seras and Katie Stan. Mary Celentano played a strong overall game and Gabriella Sadowski anchored the defense for the Breeze. The Lightning Strikes stormed back in the second half on an unassisted goal by Megan Riccardi, who then assisted on a goal by Becca Filiato who hammered in the beautiful cross pass. The Lightning Strikes defense steadied in the second half led by Olivia Cornett and Taegan Smith, while Michaela Cosgriff and Hailey Wilson were strong in the net.

Wildcats 4, Blue Crushers 0: For the Blue Crushers, Meghan Delp and Gloria Rowley led the offense with several breakaways toward the opponent’s goal. Madiline Patrick and Quinlyn Kessler played strong defense. Goalkeeping was shared by Piage Farley and Morgan Melillo, with each making several great saves. The Wildcat’s attack was well balanced with four different teammates netting goals, Colleen Phaneuf and Kaley Meisenheimer, Ruby Rose Rankin, and Rylee Harrrell, the last three of whom had an assist as well. Shauna Tucker played a strong all-around game and also assisted on one of the goals. The Wildcats were anchored on defense by the strong play of Isabella Butler and Emma DiNallo.

Mustangs 3, Lightning 1: For the Mustangs, Aniko Walsh scored Two goals and Kaitlyn King scored the other. Mopsey Seaver and Nia Orakwue controlled the midfield, and Angela Carriero was outstanding in goal with many saves. Caroline Tousignant and Meredith Taylor stepped up on defense to shut down the Lightning. For the Lightning, Elizabeth Teixeria contributed one goal, while Carlie Smith played an excellent overall game, supported nicely by Nicole Fisher and Pam Lalli. On defense, Cameron Powers played excellent in goal while Katie Viselli and Hannah Sepp played well on defense.

U10

Golden Eagles 5, American Eagles 2: For the Golden Eagles, Lauryn Ankers netted her first goal of the season and Emma Curtis and Zoe Freedman put up a pair of goals each to lead the Golden Eagle offense. Nicole Keeping showed some great improvements in her game, while Holly LoCascio had her mettle tested in goal and came up with save after save. Samantha Bicho anchored a stout Eagle defense with some great footwork. For the American Eagles, Graces Sholtes and Jordan Williams contributed one goal apiece, while Sarah Simonson played well on offense. On defense, Beth Mottola played well in goal, while Izzy Kaiser, Liza Gentrup, Allie Reczek made some nice plays in the defensive backfield.

Dynamites 2, Orange 2: Lauren Carrino scored an early goal for Newtown. Rebecca Gavel had a beautiful shot on goal. Shots also came from Jenna Lavelle, Brooke Antous, and Ali Kelleher, with solid offensive pressure by Keeley Kortze, Audrey Benson, and Lu Hage. The girls had a stellar passing game. Grace Corcoran had a save in goal and Hayley Harkins had two saves. Katie Sailer scored in the second half with an assist by Ali Kelleher. Brooke Antous put major pressure on the Orange goalie, but with a few minutes left in the game, Orange had a breakaway tying it up.

Dynamites 5, Ridgefield 1: The visitors from Ridgefield scored early, but the goal was immediately answered by Katie Sailer. Jenna Lavelle made multiple saves in goal for the Dynamites. Newtown continued to hustle resulting in another goal by Katie Sailer, with shots by Rebecca Gavel, Lauren Carrino, and Ali Kelleher. Audrey Benson had a great passing game and Grace Corcoran had a header to keep the ball on the Ridgefield end of the field. Brooke Antous and Hayley Harkins dribbled around Ridgefield defenders but didn’t find the back of the net. Lauren Carrino added the third goal on a penalty kick and Keeley Kortze scored soon after bringing the score to 4-1. The Dynamites continued to fire on the Ridgefield defense with shots from Lu Hage and Rebecca Gavel. Ali Kelleher sealed the win with the final goal of the game.

Correction from last week’s Dynamite Bethel Tournament highlights: Two goals were scored in the first game against Westport by Katie Sailer and a save was made by Hayley Harkins as the Dynamites won 4-2.

Newtown Sparks 6, Greenwich Magic 1: The Sparks saw their hard work pay off after an almost scoreless first half against the Greenwich Magic. A lone goal seconds before halftime by Lauren Adams started the momentum. Coming back on the field from halftime the Sparks dominated the ball led by a hat trick by Emily Celentano. An additional goal was scored by Sarah Widmann, her first of the season.

Twisters 1, Smurfs 1: Evenly matched squads posted an exciting tie on a blustery soccer pitch this past Saturday. The Smurfs led by valiant defenders Jenna Ehnot, Katelyn Henchcliffe, and Julia Clark shut down numerous first-half attacks, and led a breakaway to Veronica Vodola to finish for their lone score. Birthday girl Lin Vitarbo showed a great goalie effort. And for the Twisters, Marrit Lyon had an assist to Madison Findley for the score to tie the game. There were many shots on goal from both sides including attempts by Isabella Manfredi and Malia Gioffre. Emma DaSilva played solid on defense and kept the opponents at bay.

Twisters 5, Dynamite 2: Vanessa Tucker scored a hat-trick, and Jackie Matthews and Elizabeth Weisgerber added goals for the Twisters. Sisters Janyce and Alexandra Toth led a strong defensive effort. The Dynamite goals were scored by Merije De Wit and Sage Karp. Madeline Ceci and Madeline Hossler played well.

U11

Newtown Breeze 3, Fairfield 0: After a scoreless first half, which included a missed Fairfield penalty shot, Newtown came out strong in the second half. Assisted by Erin Tressler, Samantha Crespo hit a shot into the net for Newtown’s first goal. Rylee Mulligan found the net off of a corner from Sarah Houle to make the score 2-0. Marcella Daily sealed Newtown’s win with the third goal late in the second half. Goalkeepers Colleen McCarthy and Natalie Kelchner recorded the shutout, while the defensive line of Jacklin Gouveia, Ashley Santore, and Lauren King shut Fairfield down.

Newtown Panthers 4, Fairfield Silver Strikers 2: The Panthers faced a tough Fairfield team on a sunny October day in Fairfield. The Panthers’ offense started putting pressure on the Strikers early and Alexis Mason quickly scored on a nice header from Caroline “Charlie” Condon, allowing Alexis to put the ball up and over the keeper’s head. The Panthers took full advantage on a hand ball in the goal box by the Strikers and Alexis Mason found the goal yet again on the PK to send the Panthers into the half up 2-0. The Strikers were ready to play, however, and came back into the game after the half with their offense putting on the pressure, scoring their first of two goals quickly. The Strikers put in another goal, tying the game at 2-all. The Panthers came back and on a corner kick by Alexis Mason, Audrey Sedensky found the goal to put the Panthers up by 3-2. Alexis got her hat trick late in the second half, off a beautiful pass from Juliett Grover. The Panthers had solid performances from Bella Jimenez, Mary Hufziger, Anna Moscovici, and Diana Kirkman. The defense gave a tough showing with Catherine Shaw, Maria Ringes, and Greta Staubly. Kira Kelly was, as always, tough in goal

Newtown Panthers 3, Wilton 1: On a blustery October Saturday, the Newtown Panthers brought their game! Playing a tough Wilton team, the Panthers started the first half strong, playing great on both sides of the field. Alexis Mason started the scoring off a great assist by Audrey Sedensky from behind the midfield line. Alexis took the ball on her terrific left foot and found the corner of the net, putting the Panthers up by one. The second goal had Alexis Mason making a great crossing pass to Juliett Grover, who made sure the ball found nothing but net. Wilton scored before the whistle ended the first half, letting the Panthers know that they were there to play. The game was won in the second half when Charlie Condon assisted with a great pass to Alexis Mason, who, again, found the goal, sealing the win for the Panthers. The midfield was strong with Maria Ringes, Anna Moscovici, Mary Hufziger, and Bella Jimenez, making Wilton work for every possession. On defense, the Panthers anchor Audrey Sedensky again made great plays. Greta Staubly had a great game on defense and Kira Kelly, as always, was terrific in goal.

U12

Newtown Dynamite 5, New Canaan 0: The Newtown Dynamite was victorious over New Canaan with a strong all-around team effort. The first half scoring began with a goal by Mallory Lobuglio set up by Sophia Albano. This was followed by a Mia Katsuleres goal after a fine bit of team passing from Megan Kelleher and Kendra Dunnigan. Chloe Rogalin closed the first half scoring with a blast from the right corner of the box. The second half scoring began with a second Mallory Lobuglio goal. The scoring was capped off with a booming goal by Stephanie Carr. The team clamped down on defense the rest of the way preserving the 5-0 shutout. Fine defensive play was led by Amanda Albanesi, Katie Elkins, Brianna Lutz, Maya Neuhoff, and Emily Montoya.

U14

CHAOS 4, Smiters 1: Hannah Grant, showing power and style, had two unbelievable goals for CHAOS. The other two goals were scored by Allison Indelicato and Jesse Sailer with an assist by Sierra Mather. Amanda Donovan turned on her game and ruled the midfield while Marissa Liberante played well on defense. For the Smiters, Emma Burns scored on an assist from Emma deFlumeri. Kaitlyn McNichols and Molly Begg had strong games at midfield. Amanda Martinez provided lots of offensive pressure. The trio of Haley Taylor, Haley McNulty, and Sarah MacMullan put in a fine goaltending effort.

Twisters 1, SWAT 1: For the Twisters, one goal scored by Jenna Hansen with the assist by Anna Pinckney. Good midfield play was seen by Savannah Davidow and Arianna Della Corte, while Anita Luxkaranayagam was strong on defense. Alexis Tucker proved to be tough in goal. Zoe Ivan played well both on the field and in goal. Kate Laaksonen and Jacqueline Mooney played very strong, and Megan Olszewski scored the goal for the SWAT team.

Rockets 5, Oompah Loompas 1: For the Rockets, Hannah Booth scored  four goals and Jillian Milano had one goal. Tough defensive performances were turned in by Lexi Badick, Brianna Alves, and Cate Haggerty. For the Oompah Loompas, Andrea Rodriguez scored the only goal. Natalie Shaker and Abby Winters provided strong midfield play. Rachel Jacuzzi and Tessa Leon-Gambetta led the offense effort.

Boys

U8

Golden Eagles 3, Team Seven 1: For Team Seven, Max Hanson and Stephen Dooley combined on an indirect kick with Stephen shooting the ball into the top corner of the net. The boys kept the pace of play high and had many opportunities to score in the first half but just could not find the right placement. Team Seven players found themselves down a few goals in the second half but continued to put pressure on their opponent. Again, they had several good scoring opportunities but couldn’t seem to find the net. Kevin Gong and Alex DaSilva played well defensively. The Golden Eagles played another strong game and had to fight hard for the win. Markus Paltauf scored two goals with another goal coming from Jonathan Liberante. Assisting on the goals were Drew Poseno and Hunter Kirkman. Colin Adis and Sam Staubly were solid with their positional play throughout the game.

Golden Eagles 1, Madmen 0: The Golden Eagles won their third straight game with a third shutout. In a back and forth battle that seemed destined for a tie, the only goal was scored by Markus Paltauf on a deflection. Devin Johnson had the assist when Markus redirected his shot into the net. Drew Poseno and Hunter Kirkman hustled throughout the game and Colin Marshall had some fantastic saves in goal late in the game. Chris Shaker, Marlon Medina, and Brandon Akbas lead the Madmen on the offensive side with great hustle and determination. Connor Faxon and Andy Miller were forces on the defensive side of the field in this hard-fought game.

Vipers 6, Team Nine 1: The Vipers had another strong game after quickly going down one goal early in the game. Thomas Armstrong led the charge to get the Vipers back in the game to tie at 1-1. After giving up the first goal, the offense took over with additional goals by Ethan Correia, Steven Cheh, and Thomas Armstrong. Justin Zemo was solid at midfield. William Swierbut was exceptional in goal playing with a broken toe against the strong attack led by Team Nine in the second half.

Team Four 7, Warriors 1: Scoring the lone goal for the Warriors was Neil Kalra, who also displayed some fine goalie skills. Colden Bobowick came on very strong, showing a never-quit attitude and Steven Vournazos put in tremendous and relentless effort at midfield. True to their name, the Warriors battled hard until the final whistle Sunday.

Madmen 0, Team Eight 0: In a game exemplified by excellent goalkeeper play, the Madmen and Team Eight played to a scoreless tie. Both squads had good opportunities, but goalies from both sides made fine plays to keep the match scoreless. The Madmen were led by William Tainter-Gilbert, who had a strong game on both offense and defense. On defense, Johnathan Taylor had a terrific game, as did Andrew Miller. Roni Bajraliu played well on offense, and Marlon Medina and Riley Ward were stars in goal.

Warriors 5, Nighthawks 2: Duncan O’Leary and Jack Petersen scored the two Nighthawk goals and played well throughout the game. Strong all-around efforts were also given by Zachary Riley, Richard Qi, and Jacob Anthony. Jake Pare scored two goals for the Warriors and the other three were by CJ Cuomo, Bryce Benson, and Ryder Palumbo. Daniel Delia, Fritz Maurath, Nick Preszler, and Chase Yeaton passed the ball extremely well and assisted the Warriors in scoring the five goals.

Titans 4, Champions 1: Both teams displayed excellent sportsmanship from the beginning until the end of the game. The Titans came out firing and were able to find the back of the net four times. Goals were scored by Karl Miller (2), and Justin DeThomas and Brayden Deraney (1 each).  Roland Eller and Sam Edwards played great all around games. The Champions played with plenty of heart and scored their second goal of the season. They played their best second half of the season with a lone goal scored on a breakaway by Zachary Masone after great passing and assists by Ethan Paley and André Boily. Great goalkeeping at the end of the game by Matthew Weisgerber kept a barage of shots out of the net with the help of excellent defensive coverage by Benjamin Paley and Henry Wishneski.

U10

Vipers 4, Old Greenwich 1: The Vipers put an end to Old Greenwich’s winning season on Sunday. Key to Newtown’s win was goalie CJ Trivers ability to deflect six of the seven vicious shots by the opposition. Brice Bisset was aggressive as striker throughout the game, scoring twice plus logging five more solid attempts on goal. Midfielders Declan Sughrue and Travis Huzina thwarted several rushes by the Old Greenwich squad and consistently attacked offensively. Dylan Sock was outstanding on the field and had several fast breakaways resulting in one goal. In the second half, Jack McDermott dribbled the ball solo from Newtown’s’ box up the sideline and kicked a bullet shot into the net. Adam Farley, Jackson Dooley, and Danny Schreiber all turned in solid defensive performances. Sean Arnold, Owen Sullivan, and Henry Vaughan ruled the midfield with amazing speed throughout the match.

U11

Danbury 4, Net Rippers 3: Danbury and Newtown battled it out, shot for shot in a heated match. A Nick Harper corner headed in by Brendan Ohara had Newtown ahead, and Danbury retaliated with three rapid-fire shots on goal — all stopped by superstar James Barden. Danbury finally got one past, then somehow got one past Silas Decker. Brendan O’Hara caught the team up, due to great aggressive play by midfielder Nick Harper and Aiden Hall. At the half, game tied 2-2. Extraordinary Mark Hall played practically every position, providing essential defense and strategic midfield capabilities. Magnificent Matt Gerbo was unstoppable, finding the net for one of his own, with Hall keeping play alive against on Danbury’s tough keeper. O’Hara netted another, only to be matched quickly by tough Danbury sneaking past goalie Ryan Brello. With minutes remaining, and game was tied 3-3, then Danbury went up one, despite smart, consistent play by Hunter Procaccini and Josh Harper ruling the pitch.

Trumbull 5, Rovers 2: Defenders Michael Greenspan, Jack Armstrong, and Santiago Forero helped keep the ball away from the goal. Goalies JT Lewis and Reed Hammond both played well. Thomas Skrelja scored both goals for the Rovers. Offensive players Henry Petrillo, Grant Moxham, and Wally Skrelja all showed great effort.  Despite another loss, the whole team continues to show great sportsmanship.

U13

Strikers Second In Cape Cod Tourney: The Strikers placed second in the Cape Cod Harvest Tournament, recently. The Strikers defeated Simsbury U12 3-1 behind goals by Rodriguez, Dean, and Schreiber, knocked off Simsbury U13 on a goal by Carney, played Providence to a scoreless tie, and fell to the Simsbury U13 team 2-0.

Newtown Strikers 1, Darien 1: After a scoreless first half, Darien scored early in the second half to secure the lead. With less than 60 seconds to play, James Carney took the ball all the way up the wing and scored to tie the game. Strong games by Alex Gerbo, Chris Rovelli, and Tyler Dullinger

 

U14

A-Team 3, Bench Warmers 2: In a tightly contested contest in very windy conditions, the A-Team defeated the Bench Warmers 3-2. The A-Team offense was led by two goals from Tim Vander Have and one from Dillon Palumbo. Quinlan Hart played a great at striker, creating many scoring chances. Casper De Wit was tasked with shadowing the Bench Warmers’ leading scorer and did a tremendous job. The defense was anchored by Tommie Shaker, Kieran Lynch, Noah Orakwue, and Charlie Soto. The Bench Warmers were led by the scoring of Alister Sore and Connor Miller. Christian Lestik controlled the midfield and the combination of Alister Sore and Ryan Szalay made quite a number of great saves to keep the game close.
