Family Health Care Center Welcomes New Family Physician

Amarillys (Lily) Rodriguez, MD, MPH was recently welcomed to the Family Health Care Center of Newtown. Dr Rodriguez is a board certified family physician with a master’s degree in public health, specializing in epidemiology.

She graduated from the University of Puerto Rico, School of Medicine in 1985 and completed her family medicine residency in 1988. She practiced in Puerto Rico for two years before relocating to the United States.

From 1992 to 2007, Dr Rodriguez was the family doctor, occupational health physician, and medical director for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation in southeastern Connecticut.

She has a strong interest in health promotion and disease prevention in patients of all ages. Over her 25-year career, she has interacted and treated patients from many ethnicities and with differing cultures and traditions. In 2000 she was appointed by the governor to be a member of the Connecticut Advisory Commission on Multicultural Health.

Dr Rodriguez is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and the American Medical Association. During her career, she has been recognized with multiple honors and awards, including the Secretary of the State of Connecticut Public Health Service Award in 2003, and the Academic Excellence Award from the University of Puerto Rico, Graduate School of Public Health in 2008.

Family Health Care Center of Newtown has been providing medical care to Newtown and its surrounding communities for more than 30 years. Providers Dr Alex Afshar, Dr Alexander Isgut, and Dr Lily Rodriguez have admitting privileges at Danbury Hospital and Maureen Engel, an adult advanced practicing registered nurse (APRN), has been with the practice for more than 20 years.

The practice specializes in the care of adults, children, and women’s health issues, using state-of-the-art technology to assist in providing the best possible care for patients.

The practice promotes education and prevention for overall health and wellness.

Services include the management of chronic illnesses, acute/sick visits, EKGs and well visits, including complete physicals for adults, children, well babies, school, sports and camp physicals, as well as women’s health examinations, including pap smears.

For patient convenience, the office provides a Quest phlebotomist who is on site daily, as well as other treatment services such as, infrared coagulation for the destruction of hemorrhoids, management of chronic illnesses and minor surgeries.

The office is located at 19 Church Hill Road, and opens at 8 am weekdays, closing at 7 pm Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; Wednesdays to 5 pm; and Fridays to 4 pm; Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm for same day sick visits only.
