CONNECTICUT PLEIN AIR PAINTERS SOCIETY WILL OPEN MEMBERS SHOW NOV. 9

avv/gs set 10/22 #716726

HARTFORD, CONN. — Featuring the last rays of light glittering across a summer meadow, lively views of the Connecticut shoreline and fleeting moments of life along the Connecticut River, the annual membership exhibition of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society will open Friday, November 9, at Hartford Fine Art. More than 100 paintings will be displayed for sale and the 11th annual exhibition.

The society was founded in 1995 by Jane Zisk an inspired by the tradition of plein air painting established by Connecticut Impressionist painters such as Childe Hassam, J. Alden Weir, and Willard Metcalf. “Plein air painting challenges the artist to interpret the quality of light and the sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere onto the canvas,” says Katherine Simmons, president of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society.

The juror of selection and awards for the exhibition is Christopher Magadini, a nationally recognized plein air painter whose work is exhibited and collected worldwide. According to Magadini, “Painting is not simply the replication of what the eye sees. It is the creation of an image that embodies thoughts and feelings that connect with the viewer.”

During the run of the exhibition and sale, there will be a plein air panel discussion and weekly artist demonstrations in a variety of media. The public is invited to these free events at Hartford Fine Art. During the month of December, the gallery will present a Small Treasures Holiday Art Sale featuring additional small paintings by society artists.

Hartford Fine Art is at 80 Pitkin Street. For information, www.hartfordfineart.com or 860-528-1409.
